  • Wierd thing when spooling up

    Hi,

I am hoping someone might be able to shed a little light on what I'm seeing on my MT.

I have a Mini titan and I'm using a 15T Pinion and 2S lipo (as manual states is possible), when spooling up, the motor almost struggles to start and then all of a sudden jumps into life causing a sudden increase in rpm. I'm sure this cant be good for the gears.

I think the mesh is set correctly, used a piece of paper and to set it, if I hold the motor and move the maingear there is the smallest amount of slack noticeable.

The only way I can prevent it is if I spool up REALLY slowly, so you can see the motor 'flicking' round from magnet to magnet

Any idea's why this might be doing this at spool up?

    Hi,

Not sure how you have got your ESC setup but with most ESC's you are able to set the startup type,...check to see what setting it is in and if it is better for you adjust it so that it is in 'Soft Start' mode, this allows the motor to ramp up without the risk of stripping gears.

Edit: It sounds as though it is in 'Normal' startup mode or something similiar. I used to set mine on Soft start with Active throttle response, with the governor mode turned off and just running a flat line on the throttle curve.

Did you use the silly throttle curve they say in the manual? if so set a linear curve.

        Hi guys,

I think i have softstart enabled but I will check. I had started with the throttle curve in the manual but now I have a linear one 0-25-50-75-100
        Is that curve ok?

Thats a fine curve, I would check the ESC for the soft start.

ESC is set up correctly, If I remove the pinion and wizz up the motor I can even see the soft start working.

I have just reverted back to a 3S and the problem goes away.

            Suggests two hings to me:

            1. The 2S 1800mAh 18C batteries could not handle the intial current draw

            2. The motor doesn't like 2S voltage (7.2V)

            Anyone else have any ideas?

I always thought that the MT was the same as the rex 450 which is a 3s setup?? All the ones I have seen have been run on 3s 2200 packs!

I'm sure being a '450' Size machine that the pack size should be a 3S minimum (4S Maximum)

Never heard of 2s on a MT....where did you hear/read that?

                    lookd like not enough power...

Maybe the motor hasnt got enough power or the lipo aint powerful enough at startup..and make your throttle curves more smoother...

Nothing major to worry about in my opinion

                      Hi Guys,

It clearly states in the Manual that for longer hovering times use a 2s setup. I had my doubts when I read it but thought I would try it anyways given I had some 2s batts lying about.

I think its not really suitable on 2s
