as a newbie do i need to make any changes to the settings in my dx7 to use phoenix sim, at the moment i'm struggling to maintain a steady hover

Which model are you flying? I would recommend the Trex 600 or 700 or if you are really struggling, the trainer helis. The 450 is a bit of a cow to hover on Phoenix.

20-30% Expo would not hurt either, I started with 30% and that helped a bit and after a bit of practice I turned that down to 20% because it started feeling a little unresponsive.

You can either set the expo in the DX7 menu or for each individual model in the Phoenix menu's.

My first bit of advice would be to move up to the 6 or 700, they have more inherent stability, move back to the 500 when you can comfortably hover the bigger models.

Expo is a setting available which deadens your initial stick movements Exponentially, I don't have a DX7, I have a 6i but the menu is under DR & Expo. Just select it for Aileron, Elevator and rudder in turn and set it to +30%, or a better option is to go into Phoenix settings and set it individually per model. I will have to fire up a Virtual Machine to run windows on to fire up Phoenix, so am unsure of the exact steps but it is fairly self explanatory if you go and have a look.

No, Phoenix requires you have it set to one servo.

                Hi Oceanbeach and Weeble,

Oceanbeach, I am new to phoenix and tried it last night and found it scarily hard as well.

I can hover my MSR in my kitchen tail in quite well now but in the sim it was damn near impossible. So just wanted to say thanks for asking this question as it will help me too.

Weeble, thanks for the advice cant wait to have a try tonight.
Pico z * 2 (I know they arent 'proper' helis but they are to blame)
MCX - Got bored after a fairly short time.
MSR * 2 (my current favourite)
                SR -as yet unflown

                    You are welcome Ewan

The mSR on Phoenix is completely unrealistic, I can make mine dance about the house and can hover it without even thinking about it, on Phoenix it just zoots off into the distance wobbling about until it crashes. The mSR is just not worth using on Phoenix.

That is quite reassuring, didnt fly the MSR last night just in case I was as bad as I seemed on Phoenix, phew.

I love flying the MSR in and out of the kitchen door and then taking it behind cupboards to the right and left and back out again, can almost tell what it is doing just by listening to it.

If flying outdoors helis is like it is in Phoenix then I am very glad I have not tried my b400 yet, it would be in a thousand pieces I reckon.

Ok - re did calibration and then changed set up in Phoenxi to 30% expo as suggested. Definately better in hover training. However must have done something to the throttle set up, it is now pretty much all or nothing, you are either climbing slightly or you the motor practically stops,do I need to change throttle curve or some such?
