You should also add the fact that you are now confidently hovering and flying to & fro tail in with a stiff breeze blowing!

Ya did well today lad despite the bleeding rain

I was once told a good technique to check your blade tightness is to do them up just tight enough that if you hold the heli on its side with the blades out horizontal and give the whole heli a light jolt the blades will only just stay static. Seems to have worked for me.
(I'd recommend holding the head block/grips and the bottom of the main frames if you want to try this)

Pleased to help Andy but do remember your head speed was also too low and you expermented with different Throttle Curves whilst reducing the Nod to almost nothing.

That's what this hobby is all about, trial, error, experimentation and rebuilding oh and a bit of flying in between

very true seems the trex 500 loves its head-speed now running 0-70-82-88-90
thor curve shame Sundays a washout arh well bit of phoenix later

Afaik, blades should be slightly stiff (so there is no slop between the blade grips) but still moveable by hand into the fold back position for storage. You shouldn't have to loosen them with a hex wrench/allen key to return them to storage position.

Head speed was probably the most likely culprit if the heli was nodding. My Trex450 was doing this a few weeks back with a throttle curve that was about 62.5% at midstick with about 4-5deg of pitch so that the heli hovered around center stick. However with 62.5% (even though the manual states 60-65%) it was nodding badly so I've upped it around the 80% mark now.

Which reminds me I need to loosen off the tail belt

You might need to revise this curve once you progress beyong hovering and move around a bit more.

It shouldent do any harm and having a rock steady heli helps with your confidence whilst you experiment with the next step.

You will need to set your idle up settings ready for your first inverted nose in flips next weekend
