  • Curious - Flybarless an explanation please

I see a lot of threads about Flybarless kits etc and I really have not idea what a flybarless set up is, the pros/cons etc and who it is suitable for.

My guess that it is for much more advanced pilots than me but I cant help my curiousity, any one able to either give a newbie a simple explanation or able to provide a link to one?
Pico z * 2 (I know they arent 'proper' helis but they are to blame)
MCX - Got bored after a fairly short time.
MSR * 2 (my current favourite)
    SR -as yet unflown

Simple explanation its an electronic replacment for the mechanical flybar.

helis will fly without the flybar but they are almost completely unhandlable, so what the flybarless system does is by using gyros it compensated for the lack of flybar.

The theory is that without the flybar there is less drag on the head and its been said you get an equivalent of 20% extra power, which equates to longer flight times and less bogging. also with less components there are easier and cheaper repairs for the head when it goes in.

    hope that helps
    All the best
    Tony.

Doesn't matter whether your experienced or not. It's essentially 3 gyros that work together to artificially stabilise the heli, replacing the mechanical method of using a flybar. Traditionally used for multi blade heads but now making it's move to 3D. Allows more power to be used as the flybar creates some drag and hence uses some of the power available

So a flybarless system doesn't need the normal giro as it comes with its own tail giro. Is that correct?

yet another gadget that provides an excuse to tinker with the heli instead of flying it

Skookum 360 needs a tail gyro as it's only a two axis unit. Most other units are now three axis, so no need for separate tail gyro.

Some use a single gryo unit that holds the three gyro's internally the vbar / align / BeastX & Curtis's I believe and others the one that needs three individual gyro's is CSM (A bit dated now).

This is one reason why I sold my GY611 in essence the price new was not that far off the GY611 new. Not sure on the rest in the market, but I know that the vbar's internal magic compensates the tail when in piro moves to ensure consistency as much as possible.
                  Cheers

Ok so there are more and more systems coming out.

what is needed to say convert one of my knights to flybarless??

The beast x seems a good price, i know its pre order at the moment but what else is needed?? How do you go about modding the head?

would you use something like the beast x or one of the older more established brands?

                        Thanks all,

Very informative and when they get a bit cheaper I will definately consider this as an option
