I wanted to test the waters and get some early advice so I can research down the right path.
I have my lovely Innovator and am loving it- it is teaching me a huge amount about helis, and the flying is going very well after a shaky start caused by impatience, too much wind and me messing up settings :P I am hovering easily, even in some wind, flying messy 8s and am managing to recover to a hover from most new things I try.
Even at 450 size, it is still very twitchy in any wind and even though I assume my control will improve, something larger with more inherent stability would be good.
I can see it lasting me into the summer before I want to step up to the next level of tinkering.
First big question is Electric or Nitro- I see that batteries for the larger helis are very expensive and to have fun flying, I reckon at least 6 are needed- this also means a lot of charging when I get home.
I went to the local club at the weekend, and most people have Trex 600 Nitros. I think a lot of my flying will be solitary though as I have access to a lovely private 2 acre field which is just up the road from my house. THe only downside to this is that it is one of the higher points around, so does get a bit more wind.
The downside to the Trex 600N is I would have to upgrade my DX6i I think?
There is also a part of me that sees all those Trex 600s in a row and wants something different!
An electric would be better noise wise, but I am reluctant to spend a fortune on batteries.
Any thoughts welcome.
Cheers
Alex
