What Tx - Make do or upgrade form the start

Hi all, just getting into the hobby and awaiting my first proper heli, a century genius 450. I have had a look through the forum and can hear the sighs already but I think century have moved on a bit with their customer support as a friend of mine has the same heli and he is getting parts delivered next day in most cases and when he has a problem he cant solve he sends it back and they set it back up for him..

the dilemma...

current situation,
I bought a rd6000 sport a while ago, (pause for another sigh) it was in a store closing down so didnt cost too much, I cant find the manual but have got the pdf at last and printed one off. The genius is coming ready to go minus the rx as I was going to use the rd's rx.

Do I?

carry on, use the tx I have and only bother upgrading when I (hopefully) get to a level where I need a better controller (only 3 point pitch curve on the 6000 sport)

Or,
Sell the tx all boxed and new as it is at the moment and put whatever it gets towards something else?

Money is a bit tight at the moment and getting another tx is going to delay getting started, not sure I will be able to resist once the heli arrives mid week..

I don't know too much about the RD6000 except that it was a popular transmitter included in beginner deals from many retailers.
Saying that, I have not seen one in the flesh, but have not heard too many bad things about them either. In terms of general radio preference, the Sanwa sets seem to sit fairly low on the list, so the re-sale value of a RD6000 will not be much.

The Genius 450 is usually supplied with a 2.4 tx and if the review on it in the latest Rotorworld mag is anything to go by, then getting the complete package may be a better option as the model requires hardly any extra setting up to get it flying. I suspect that the heli minus Tx and Rx will not be that much less than the complete RTF package.

If I were in your position and was committed to getting the Genius 450, then I would spend that little bit extra and get the compete package. I would sell the RD6000 for whatever I could get for it and put the money towards extra batteries.

This is the route I would take, but ultimately the choice is yours.

Well there were 2 kits in the running, the 3d storm or the genius, local store getting both in for me to have a look at, but he thought the genius has a slightly wider frame of the 2 which would make fitting the sanwa rx possible.. will wait and see, looks like I will have to wait a little longer anyway as they apparently dont do the genius in a kit without the tx as yet but is something they are intending and the rep should not have allowed it to be ordered as yet..be interesting to see what turns up..

I did want to use the sanwa to keep the cost down but am thinking more and more that it is best to get a controller that I can stick with once I get used to flying. I just know if I go with the sanwa and ask for some setup advice if there is a problem I will get 'bin the sanwa' in reply too... lol

i'm assuming here the RD6000 is a 35mhz radio.

so using it could be a false economy, I had 3 crashes due to glitches on 35mhz before I bit the bullet and went 2.4 now when I crash I know its definately me fault

yes it is a 35mhz, it is the sport version though which for some reason only has 3 point curve the older 6000 had 5 and the later 8000 has 5 too. be a good set for fixed wing though.
