  • New to Heli's

Im new to the outside world of heli's i have a huge indoor selection which i started picking up last year. Im going to widen my range and start outside.

I have some exp with a few friends that have heli's and was told that the Esky HoneyBee V2 would be a good place to start?

Does anyone have any advice on good places to buy them i have been adviced to use Buzzfly uk but didnt know if anyone would know of any other place i might be able to purchase myself one?

    Thanks

    Hi welcome to the forum

Regarding the Esky Honeybee V2...From what I gather the vibe on this forum isnt that good...I think in general people seem to not like Esky!

And I think people will come along and say Trex 500 this is what I was told. Although me being me I went for the Blade 400 3D (really down to finances at the time)

I shall be getting the 500 in june

    Hope this helps

Hi rcr and welcome to the forum

If you are serious about wanting to fly the larger outdoor helis then a cp heli is the way to go. But first you would be well advised to get a good tx like the Spektrum DX6i and a copy of the Phoenix rc simulator. Then spend a goodly time learning how to fly these things before you even contemplate buying and trying to fly a heli for real. They are not easy things to fly unlike most of your indoor helis
The Blade SR, soon to be released could be a good choice but, I would steer clear of the Honeybee tbh.

you thought about a trex 250? not just saying that cos Im selling one honest! comes bind and fly with 2 lipos and a few spares. Some would say its a bit small for a newbie but it flies great for its size and its cheap to fix!

              Hi, welcome.

Depends on whether you want to go nitro or electric.

Raptor 30 for nitro, Blade 400 for electric. As a start.

I started with a blade 400 but with hindsight I wish I went straight for a trex 450 ... depends on your budget

                  Welcome

I agree with James, hang on about 2-3 weeks untill the Blade SR is out, looks like it is going to be a winner for beginners
I left the hobby 3 years ago and discovered Women.

                  I wish I never left.

I'd save the extra pennies and bypass the Blade400. I've owned one and now have a Trex 450 Sport. While both are unforgiving in the wind, the Trex 450 just feels nicer

Thank you for all the replys. I will be going for electric to start think it might be safer that way. Also regarding the sim i have already been given one (early birthday present) just been messing about on it for now until i really know what one to go for. Still shopping around im yet to find a good site / shop to look at.

                        Welcome to the forum.
RC Helis sure are addictive get ready to remortgage your house or sell your body for heli funds.
For good shops just look at the advertisers on this site, Fastlads is one of the favourites but there are other options

Nothing wrong with the HoneyBee FP thats how i started my journey. Its small and if you use outside it will be affected by the wind significantly, but as it bounces very well its a trade off. If you crash, the majority of the time its a case of straightening the blades and away you go. If you do manage to break something its a couple of quid to fix.

I would not recommend the CP version of this heli as its horrid.

Once you can hover this and can move it about a bit, you will be surprised how well you will do with the bigger helis.

Also I would recommend looking at the Nuttcaze videos, lots of useful beginners tips - google and ye shall find

Where abouts are you based. My advise to anyone looking to get into the hobby is go to your local club and speak to the guys flying heli's. You will then get an idea of what they are flying and then be able to get help and support when you need it. Also joining a club gives you somewhere safe to fly.
