  • Filling Rappy 30 With Fuel

    Hi there,

I have a very quick question but might be stupid. In the past I have had nitro rc cars and when you fill them you just open up the cap and fill, then to get fuel to the carb you push the wee feed pump in the tank a few times.

How do you do this on a nitro helicopter? I have just finished my build so everything is fresh and new, I bought one of those anti flood fuel filler valves too.

    Any help greatful

Without seeing your set up it's difficult to advise really.

I just have the fuel pipe straight off the header tank onto the engine so I just pull the pipe off the engine and fill from there. If you have a 3 way filter then make sure the fuel tube to the engine is clipped off, fill the tank, unclip the engine line and then fill a little more until the fuel just reaches the engine inlet. From there you can give the motor a couple of turns with the starter without the glow starter attached to prime it then you're ready to start.

EDIT, you don't mention it but I presume you have a manual or electric fuel pump.. you will need one to get the fuel into the tank. As you know there is no 'filler cap' on your heli as the fuel system must be pressure tight so the exhaust gas pressure can force the fuel into the engine once it's running.

Hi, the most common method is to use a hand pump or an electric pump or a pump on a power panel. The fuel is pumped into the tank usually through a "T-piece" which is in the fuel line from the tank to the engine. A clip is used to stop the carb flooding whilst fuelling and is removed before starting the engine. The fuel is delivered to the carb by exhaust pressure from the starter process.
