  • First real heli suggestions please

So what do you think would be a good starter heli (for when I get bored of my little toy)? I want to start thinking about it now so I can work out how much I need to save. Do you think it would be good to stay with electric or go for a petrol one? I've read that lots like Raptors. How much would I need to spend on a radio to get something fairly good that would last a few years? What other bits and pieces would I need to get?

There is so much you going to need and to know, your best bet is to pop along to your local club and have a chat to some people and see the models and what's needed to get them flying.

Raptor is a good starting point, there are often complete helis with all the clobber going cheap second hand as people buy them and don't have the time to learn.
    Clones are bad

    .... that includes Align ones

      Crikey! already?
Like Thomas suggests, get to a local club, pick up some of the magazines on the subject, and read these forums.
I suppose you need to decide what kind of flying and what kind of heli you think you are interested in (electric, gas, scale, 3D etc etc), then start asking us questions.
Be warned - its not a cheap hobby - maybe you'd better warn your dad too

I advanced from a helicopter like yours to a Bell MedEvac. Its cheap and "easy" to fly.. and its much more fun than those small ones
But I allready feel the urge to get something bigger, but I guess I need to manage to fly this one before I spend any more money, after all I have crashed it a few times allready
        Twister Bell MedEvac

I've been looking around and the Hornet 2 looks good. It's hard to tell how big it is though.

twister 3d... cheeper for parts and less chance of breakage i found my hornet2 very fragile the twister ent as strong as a t-rex mind the 3d is cheeper to buy and build(many may not agree but thats my opinion) so i say 3d twister

The twister 3d doesn't look much different to mine. What about the Mini Pred 3D? That looks quite good.

again i think its pretty similar to the twister 3d, have a look at phoenix simulater as your next move. you will learn alot from it and then you will be able to go to a big nitro
