ok guys, what is the best way of progressing from a tail in hover, i thought it was to hover tail in and then slowly turn it, my friend thinks it is best to start taking off from a nose in position. what do you think

Don't think it matters that much as to how you get nose in, just as long as you do.
I preferred turning from tail in to side on and them nose in while in the air personally.
Another way of doing it is to walk round the heli

Don't try to start by taking off nose-in. You're most vulnerable close to the ground because one quick correction the wrong way and you're plowing the field with it.
I'd say keep your landings and takeoffs tail-in until you are really solid with nose in hovering.
Assuming you have practiced already on the sim, next time out take the heli up a bit, maybe 20 feet or so off the ground so you have time to bail out if things get hairy. Go into a hover and swing it round nose-in. If you feel too uncomfortable or out of control, return to tail-in.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

You can teach a man everything. Apart from experience.

This forums the best place to ask as I found out myself, if you listen to one person someone else is going to say different.
With any new heli moves best to let it naturally happen or practice moving into the manoeuvre that you want to achieve.Today's outlook is fine for flying.- Spektrum DX18 gen2, Phoenix Sims, Align MR25XP.

I was told to do the clock face, as in tail at 6 o,clock then turn to
5 o,clock then 7 o,clock and so on but got borred too death with that
!!
Do tail in then side on DONT get handed!!
Then start to move the heli left then back to center then right, as you gain confidence move to the left or right then bring the heli back BUT turn the nose in the directoin of flight and HOVER past to the the other side! Easy peasy but IF it goes t*ts up just DONT PANIC push the nose round back to you safty zone tail in hover then start again.

Hello All I've only dipped my toe in the water of nose in flight . I took the heli (Trex 500) up to about 40 feet , got it steady and turned it to face me , plenty of time for errors at that height .I had 5 batteries worth doing that for a few seconds , I'll carry on doing that till I have it sussed .Fly it like you got it on Finance

I've not had the spheres yet to actually go nose in for real, although I have already tried a flip (which resulted in a crash but gave me confidence - strangely - to carry on).
I've been practising nose in on the phoenix and put into practice something that I was told recently as a tip and it really has worked for me.
The biggest problem seems to be that your brain is not used to doing things in reverse and you already know when the nose is facing you everything is going to be in reverse, ie left is right - back is forward etc. So your poor old brain (well it is in my case) has to try and think about what you would normally do and then reverse it and by that time you have either lost it or panicked. The best way to get round this (well it has worked a treat for me anyway) is not to even try and think about left/right/back/forward etc, but to work with what you can actually see.
When you get to the nose in position, just push the stick in the direction that the main rotor disc is dipping. So if when in the nose in position the main rotor is dipping down to the left, gently push the aileron stick to the left UNDER the dipping disc. Similarly if the heli is tipping backwards push the elevator stick forward UNDER the dipping side of the disc. This way you are just following the position of the rotor rather than thinking about left and right and then trying to reverse that thought in a split second. The key is just remembering that whatever way the rotor disc is dipping - push the appropriate stick under that dipping disc. The secret seems to be not thinking about what you would do if you were flying tail in and then doing the opposite, rather react to what you can actually see by applying this very simple rule.
I've been doing this on the simulator and it really has worked, so much so that I enjoy nose in more than tail in now - weird. I'm not sure how this will translate in real life but I'm going to give it a go very soon. I'm hopeful that after a while, this action will become second nature and I won't really be thinking about it at all.
If you do have a simulator - give it a go and see how you get on. It might work for you so give it a bash.
Cheers,Simon

I moved to nose in by moving from tail in hover at a safe hieght then 180 to nose in . With a bit of height you get a little time to correct yourself or spin round back to tail in if you feel uncomfortable. Once you get used to that you can start to reduce hieght slowly and progress to nose in landing before taking off again. Good luck
