  • Been out of the saddle for a while

    Hi All,

I have not flown or even touched the Sim for 8 months now due the little one and moving.

    I have a 600 NSP and a 450s with 35mzh Futaba FF7 and standard 3001 servos on the 600 and 3110's on the 450 both have GY401's the 600 has a decent tail servo but the 450 doesn't.

I haven’t got any money to send but I feel that the servos need upgrading on both if not at least the 600.

Neither have been looked at for a while and I am guessing the engine in the 600 might need some attention. (Both kept in the house nice and warm)

My Flying was not great when I stopped and I am too nervous to try again on my own but there is no one at the club to help....

+ The starter is broke and the field battery is not holding a charge.

Any advice would be appreciated as to what I need to get and how much I can get away with spending????

I have engines that sat longer than 8 months and were just fine. It just depends if it had enough oil in it when it was put away after the last run.

I'm sure the advice you'll get on servos will be the Align 610 or 620's but an inbetween option in terms of price would be something like Futaba 3152s.

      Hi Nick

Good to hear from you again. I hope all is well with you and your family?

I have the DS610s on my 600 and they are fine thus far. I'm toying with swapping the DS620 on the tail for an S9254 tho.

I've just built a 450SEv2 and put HS65-MGs on the cyclic and they are just fine. Inwoods are knocking them out for about £17 a servo as I recall. I think there's a set for sale on here too?

For field batteries, if you don't mind a drive to Bracknell, the user called JohnJ is giving away (yes free) 12V 7Ah batteries.

Can't help with the starter other than to say I did get my Sullivan H-Tork from eBay for £9, but I got lucky.

      :-)

Nick, theres nowt wrong with the 3001's. Not the best but more than adequate for someone who doesn't need anything different to get back in the air. Save your money, get a new starter, nothing fancy and a new field battery. Put some fuel through the engine even maybe a little in the glow plug hole and turn over by hand, not with the starter. Any problems will soon become apparent. Give it a start and then find a new club where you can get the help you need. Everything else will be fine. Hone your flying and then when you wan to move to the flippy floppy stuff then look at upgrading. Spend your money on fuel, club and stick time.

Martin as star as always I was just looking on Inwoods website and the 3152s are only £17.50 each so for £52.50 + postage I think would be silly not too...

Thanks for the link for the batteries the larger ones look great.

Good to hear that the motor should be fine.

If I can get away with out spending money the Misses would be happier as we just spent 8K on a Toyota Auris..

I have been fly the heli up till now with 3001's I am far from pushing it I was only flying 8's and they were wobbly...

3001's will be fine to get the Trex back in the air and to get you hovering and back into circuits

like martin i also have the DS610's on mine and they are brilliant but they make the heli a lot quicker /twitchier than the 3001's will

401's will be fine on both heli's, maybe look for a 9247 or 9650 or a DS520 for the tail on 450 this will make this heli seem much better and stable

i would as said before get yourself a good starter and battery and gret the bird back in the air and get some time with it, get practising the hovering and circuits and 8's the you can look for some newer servos later

if you dont have any luck with a club, consider coming up to the flying school and having a few lessons www.paulhecklesrc.co.uk we will get you back up and flying

If you do want to get some DS610's then it's worth checking the For Sale ads because they sometimes come up for sale brand new when somebody buys a 600/700LE and doesn't want the servos (I think there may even have been some advertised here yesterday?).
