I have been flying planes for 20 years, but could never handle helis on the filight simulators. LHS suggested 47G and now with 20 flights under my belt I have finally go it. My eventual target is a Trex 450 XL CDE with a high power motor for aerial photography. Do I need to train on an intermediate heli, or can I migrate to the Trex right away ?

trex 450 for aerial photography??
you need something stable solid and smooth for AP... something a 450 def isnt.
dont be fooled into thinking because its small and electric that it will be easier to fly than something bigger.
if you can get to a club a 30 or 50 size nitro powered heli is a lot easier to fly.

This is an apple free zone
anybody can be an Arsehole, it takes real commitment, dedication and a whole lot of effort to be nice.

AP on a Trex is very hard, trying to keep one still to take a picture is a challange. Another problem is weight, I put a Nikon 3700 on mine just for a play and even with a Medusa 3400 motor it really struggled, especially when I let the thing drop a bit quick
There are slightly bigger electrics far better suited, like the Century Swift - it would be more stable hence sharper images and much easier to fly.
Clones are bad
.... that includes Align ones

I was considering Trex 450 because of recommendations from Askman
Here is his Trex 450 AP page
http://www.askmanap.com/trex.html
He makes a reasonable cost servo camera mount. My idea is I would fly the heli and my gf would do the point and shoot. I have a retired Pentax Optio S and the IR control module which plugs into the receiver.
After you read trhe page, let me know what you think
TIA

It would work but i dont personally see a 450 being of any real use,,need to go bigger,,
I have owned and flown many different 450`s and they are twitchy and would be difficult to see at any great height to keep stable as a camera platform,,,
For lower or closer in stuff i suppose its do` able

Logo 10, Swift 16 or Trex 600? Bigger the better in AP as it a) makes the heli more stable, and b) lets you carry bigger / better cameras.
