  • Fuel Choice between Bekra and Model Technics

Hi, if all goes well with an engine test I was going to buy some fuel from Hobbystores and they stock Bekra, Model Technics and Coptermix. I've been informed by the owner that it didn't run well on Coptermix so was looking at Bekra or Model Technics. Which one is the better of the two I guess is the question.

I'll get one of the preferred fuels (eg. Optifuel) once I get through this lot and order it via FL. However I want to fly this weekend if all goes well with the test.

    Cheers.

Right, as hobby stores just listed them as MT Helimix, Bekra and Coptermix.

It was just the owner of this heli says he had issues with Coptermix and the OS37 not running well.

I'm only a beginner so don't really need anything higher than 15%.

Simmo, well I have a 1/4 of a tank of Optifuel 20% to burn off that Coptermanic gave me the other week but we had a failed start in my old SC .32 (bad compression we think). So I'm trialling David Drew's OS .37 SZ-H this week to see if it goes. Will see how the Optifuel goes. I'm sure it might be just a tuning issue that he had with the Coptermix as Hobbystores seemed to recommend it.

Sigh, I really hate glow powered Atleast I'd know how to fault find an electric. I'm really am fed up with it as I've used the factory idle and needle settings. No fuel seems to be drawing into the engine through the carb. I can force it through by blowing on the muffer line but it's not drawing naturally by using the starter from what I can tell.

I'm also unsure about the glow plug starter I have. It's a Ripmax 1.25V 1700mAh one that I bought from hobbystores last year.

Maybe you should check your exhaust for a blockage on the fuel pressure outlet.
It's Unusual to have simular faults on 2 engines, try prodding around the nipple (no jokes please) where the pressure pipe connects as i've seen these bloke up with oil debris and deposits over time or maybe even blocked with threadlock when built.

To check the glow starter simply pop a good plug on the end of it and make sure you have a nice bright orange glow.

Sean, well the sc .32 was using a different pipe to the os .37 but both of them might of had a pipe issue I guess. Will try again in a little while. Just feeling a bit annoyed as I was hoping to get it airborne this weekend. Have to wait a few weeks I think and buy a brand spanking new one, atleast it will save me the agro.

Btw, I've tried two different OS No8 plugs and both glow orange like a filament of a torch battery.

                          Darryl,

It could be a blockage in the carb. See if someone at the field can have a look.

The pressure pipe tip is also worth following up.

Hope it works. If not, just stick it back in the post.

David, I'll take a look at it tonight and by all means don't think I'm ****ed off with you or the engine. I mean I might not even be getting the right amount of RPM/Torque on the starter as I'm using a battery drill

I've just had a lot of problems with the heli in general and I'm at the end of my patience with it.

I know people do use a drill, but I never got it to start with one.

TBH I suspect the carb so worth checking it out. When it started playing up I used that as an excuse to convert to a 50.
