  • Cleaning a chrome pipe

Hi, just recieved a chrome zimmerman pipe from David Drew as a trial with an OS37SZH and it's fairly stained with I guess fuel/oil burnt onto the pipe. What would be the best way to clean it? I've tried metho as I've used this to clean metals before and tried white spirit. None of them budged it. I was wondering if any stronger solvent would budget (eg. acetone). Or is there something that is known amongst hobbyists that will budge it without damaging the finish of the chrome?

Autosol, chrome and alloy polish. Slightly abrasive. You can use carb cleaner aswell, that will remove the stains

I use a product called Solvol Autosol to clean chrome, in fact most metals. Never used it on a Heli before but I cannot imagine it would be any different?

Keep me out of it !!! lol.

True, it does have usual Model Technics brown oil stains on it, but I didn't bother cleaning it when I put on my nice shiny new Zimmerman on the OS50

Have to say, Optifuel burns much cleaner, but a good question. How do you get that crap off. Only thing that has worked for me in the past is hard work with silver polish.

The pipe is chrome plated so it shouldn't be any different then automotive chrome plating.

David, I wasn't bad mouthing you mate. I'm sure everyone gets these marks on there pipes, more so then others depending on the fuel and how rich they run it.

If anything I'd like to thank you for sending me the engine and pipe to trial before I buy. I wish the guy off of eBay had let me trial his peice of $!@£ then perhaps I wouldn't of bought it You sir though are a star.
