  • Couple of questions

I have recently finished building my Raptor 30 and wanted to know how tight are you meant to do up your main blades? Is this just a judgement thing, untill they feel firm or are there any torque settings? Next just out of interest what do the thrust bearing actually do? apart from being a pain in the a!!e to get in without falling to bits. Also are you meant to lubericate any parts of the heli?

    Many thanks
    Oli

Blades...mainly a feel thing, but a test is to hold the heli with the blades parallel to the ground & side on (hold the skids and head), then jolt the heli down and stop quickly, if the blades fall under the load they are too loose. You will get the idea of the feel when someone has shown you, meanwhile try the 'bump' test above. They should rotate under pressure, but not 'stick'.

The thrust bearings take the outward thrust of the blades caused by centifugal force. At approx 2000 rpm, that weight really is something to have to hold back

A little machine oil on the main shaft and tail rotor shaft where things slide is really all.

I'm still fairly new to all this, and have a Raptor too, so better advice is prob on it's way

Strange that I did some calculations tonight here are my results

              My main blades at 2050RPM
41.53st on the grip (I wieght aorund 12st)
              323 MPH tip speed
              33 RPS (revs per sec)

Tail blades would be doing 17,455 RPM
              20 stone
              532MPH tip speed
              17,455 RPM

I must admit the only part I guessed was my tail blade weight and I run 2050 on a 8.7 ratio (96/11)
