  • Where shall I go first on Phoenix?

    Hi again

I've just got back from a weeks holiday and my Spektrum DX6i and Phoenix sim should be waiting for me at work.

Simple question really- what shall I try first- something really hard just to really emphasise lots of sim time before the next purchase, or something that will progress my skills from my Century Spirit and do it gradually.

OR- try anything I like :P

I've never used anything like this before, so any starting advice would be great and may save me some frustration.

    Thanks
    Alex

Practice your oreintations and progress to controlled circuits. Do that each time you fire up the sim until you can do it without crashing. Its then a case of having the courage to try it out for real. Chances are you will be able to do it.

You might be able to zip it around the sky doing all sorts of moves on the sim, but you wont be able to do it for real!

All too easy to load it up and thrash a heli around the sky. We all do it... its something hard not to do!

I'm still only flying tail in for real but I try a lot of things from controlled circuits in both cw/ccw, nose in and side on hovering and if I'm getting bored I usually try things like reverse circuits, tail slides, tictocs and inverted flight. None of which I'm going to try for real any time soon as the money doesn't stretch that far

I only fly the helis that I own such as the blade 400, raptor 50 3d and raptor 50 sport and have then setup the same as my heli's etc. Yes get the tail in hover nailed then start flying around asways ending with a slow hover. Makes it easier when doing it for real

Can't wait to get it home.

Looks like I have already subconsciously worked out the subtle ways of ordering ie getting it delivered to work then leaving all the boxes there :P

You can programme so that it does not crash - so that way you can get the orientation step sorted - then take the next step such as take off followed by landing.

You'll need to understand the orientation of heli in the sky so that you can control the heli without thinking. This is the real progress in a sim.

            Good Luck and Happy flying

Learning the orientation and necessary control inputs is the one major factor that the sim does.
Phoenix does this very well because it reproduces the feeling you get when your flying your actual heli. Albeit without the same level of nervousness.
I don't think any sim could ever reproduce that.

Truth is, if you can do it in the sim then you can do it for real
Having the balls to do it for real is a totally different thing though
