boy, this hobby catches out the unititiated doesn't it?

having ordered the parts I thought I needed to repair my cx2, only to find I'd bent the inner & outer shaft too, I've just received my order of a new inner & outer shaft. ordered a plastic inner, as there's nothing wrong with the alu head/hub of my old one, so I can just change the plastic head/hub for the alu one can't I? WRONG!

the damned plastic head is moulded to the shaft unlike the alu one, so now I have to order a bleedin' alu one at twice the cost and get hit for another postage charge. aaarrgh. I'll end nearly spending the price of a new heli on my first tranch of repairs at this rate.

oh and to add insult to injury they're out of stock at FL.

I know it's small beer compared to the repair costs for you lads with "proper" helis, but it's getting really tiresome. (and the wife's starting to notice all the deliveries ;-)

what's most annoying is I can't play with it until it's fixed.

What's to stop you using the plastic one you've bought ?

It's a bind when that happens eh? Keep smiling and have the parts delivered to work and sneak them into the house when your wife's not looking.

You can get the inner shaft on its own without any head attached for about £3. Cant remember for the life of me where I got mine from at the mo but as soon as I remember ill post back.

For now id just fit the shaft with the plastic head to get back up and flying. There shouldnt really be any difference in performance and that way there is no money wasted.

can't use the plastic head as it won't marry with the alu one. at least I don't think it will?

and as for having 2 helis, I did ever so slightly buy an mCX at the same time as a new shaft :-D

Hi if you can find out where you got the bare inner shaft, that would be brill ta . I was so naive that I thought FL would stock all the options. didn't think to look elsewhere.

                  Not sure what you mean

Unless you have upgraded the head to take blade grips or something instead of the normal E-Flite blades.
If not it should fit exactly the same.

just had a quick look through my emails and found the order

think this is what you want.

                    E-Flite Blade CX2 Inner Shaft for Aluminium Head/Hub - EFLH1241 - £3.59

Also I think you are wrong about the plastic head being incompatible (I would have another look) - it just sits against the plastic bearing holder that sits on the top of the outer shaft.
The CX2 used to have the plastic head fitted. It was upgraded to the Alu head but no other mechanical changes were made.

btw the one alu upgrade that is worth doing is the plastic bearing holder mentioned. Mine was slightly off round when I got it - I replaced it with this

                    E-Flite Blade CX2 Aluminium Bearing Holder w/Bearing - EFLH1244 - £5.59

Ah. I see what you mean, but the very top of the alu flybar holder doesn't look the right shape (the plastic one is rounded whereas the alu one is straight) to be able to attach it to the plastic one, and the plastic one has no top.

I would imagine the flybar is probably just a snap fit with a screw through the top like the mCX.

                          Worth a try

Tiddler is spot on - this is exactly how the plastic head is assembled
