  • Hi and Help!

Hi first post on here, so please be gentle, lol

I've been flying for a couple of years, started with the 3 channel micro's, progressed to a Blade CX2, had that for about a year and this Christmas took delivery of an Esky Belt CP.

    My question after a very short first flight is this;

If the gyro is not secured to the frame at a perfect 90 degrees, would this induce roll.
My Gyro is stuck on with what looks like double sided tape, it's not true and sits at approx at 5 degree angle from the horizontal.

I only ask because as soon as I got her up, she immediately tried to roll hard to port and then to Terra firma.

No amount of starboard aileron would correct it.

Wind was no more than 3mph, and took off with nose to wind, all trims set in the middle, I had previously spun the blades up to check alignment but as soon as I put on more power immediately tried to roll, stupidly I carried on and a soon as off the ground................£££££££

In fairness, the damage just looks to be the piece of plastic that the flybar goes through.....and my pride.

Could the Gyro be the cause or should I be looking elsewhere?

    Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum.
So this is your first CCPM single rotor heli. I would suspect there is more to it than 5degree gyro offset.
I have experience of the BeltCP [ ] and can tell you that out of the box, their setup can be simply awful!! I jest not. RTF = easy to crash!!!

With these helis, setup of the swash and head is critical to achieve anything decent and controllable. So before you fly it next, make sure you have checked every screw, bolt, link. Be pedantic with your setup routine and make sure it is as perfect as can be. There are some very useful vids done by Bob White on the Heli Skills and Setup 101 - LOOK here first! - HeliFreak.
Go through the vids, especially the head CCPM setup ones. Witha bit of care, the BeltCP can fly OK, it is no Trex 450, Blade 400 nor Raptor 30. Plus it can be upgraded with some "better" components.
Hope this helps, but don't be afraid to ask about anything.

    Good luck!!

I agree with the post above. Well the gyro controls the tail so if there was a problem then I would expect the tail to try to move either left or right. Most helis that are as light as a belt cp do have a small amount of tilt on take off due to the ground effect. They also suffer from the wind as being so light. First check the swash plate is level and that all the cyclic controls are working.

        Thanks Chaps,

Yep, this is my first single rotor Heli, strictly coaxial before this one.

I've just visited Sussex Model Centre and been relieved of some £££ for spare parts, but I shall put it all together tonight and watch the video's as suggested then check everything is ship shape before attempting the next flight.

        Cheers

I had the same problem with my Blade 400 - crashed it almost instantly first time out! In my case the setup was OK, it was simply not appreciating how much more tricky CP helis are than coaxials!
Best advice I would suggest is to get a simulator like Phoenix and have a good practice with that...
That said, it sounds like you had a setup problem on yours, so on the rebuild, any questions - just keep posting - there's plenty on here who have masses of experience and have helped me hugely both in terms of technical help and confidence!!
          Hope this helps...

Best of luck with the rebuild, and don't forget the threadlock!! These copters have much higher loading than anything you have flown before. I can tell youmthat there are many parts of the Belt which can be readily upgraded using Blade 400, CopterX or Trex 450 V2 parts. Some components will fail very quickly, like the ESC and servos. Other parts can be replaced and have an immediate impact on the heli, like the main gear and main shaft. Simply replacing the crap Esky wooden blades with Align 315 or 325 pros also is worth doing.
PM me if you need any further help with the BeltCP.
