  • Lama V4 Problem

    Hey guys,

I have an issue here ! Serious problem with my Lama V4.

Really need the help of one of the gurus here

    Here's the problem.

when I go to take off, the heli refuses to hover without going left in a tilted manner...it's as if there is a serious weight balance on the left side of the heli which causes it to drift left, until it either spectacularly crashes or else topples over on the left hand side ! It's always the left side. Is this due to the fin missing on the back ?

Or is there something else going on ?

I have checked the heli for breakages and all is good i.e. swash plate, gears, blades, tail bar, and the swash plate seems fine and straight and I'm at a loss as to what is going on...

I've spent the past 4 hours analysing my heli and learning all about it etc such as the parts and I'm really at a loss as to what is going. I even went nuts on the gyro and proportional settings on the 4 in 1 which did eliminate the spinning counter clock wise but now I just can't fly the heli since it keeps tilting left on the left skid and then will either topple over or drift left into an object and crash !

    Any ideas ?

    hi,

how high does your heli get before it starts tilting?

it seems the aileron trim is not correctly balanced or the linkage that controls it is too long.

before binding your heli, roll the aileron trim all the way to the left. keep all the other trims in the neutral position. bind the heli. before throttling, roll the aileron trim to the neutral position and try to take off. if the problem persists, move the aileron trim a little bit to the right. try to find a point in which the heli is not tilting to the left anymore.

if this solves your problem, all you have is an unbalanced swash-plate caused by an aileron linkage that is too long or too short. in this case, it seems to be too long but I'm not familiar with Lama's hardware. try to tune the linkage by making it longer or shorter.

This is a problem often experienced by first time pilots.
Generally speaking your heli will have a tendency to drift around, sometimes quite dramatically when close to the ground. This is caused by turbulence from its own down wash (Ground effect) and is usually overcome once the heli gains enough height to clear this.
Yes There is the possibility that your swash plate has become separated or that the heli is out of trim, but I would be brave and try giving it a little more stick to gain some altitude (About 2ft+) before you start pulling your heli to bits
