Keep them off, I found I had more heavy landings with the legs on, I concentrate a lot more now without them.

I'll echo what others have said, once off leave them off..

Also another common thing with lack of flying experience is keping it low, just in case... as you think you can just plonk it down quickly if you need to.. It's does not help as you have no time to make a correction if you have to. I bet if you'd had more height your 'nearly moment' would not have been so dramatic..

Just my 2p as I'm pretty much in the same boat, still learning...

My two cents. Listen to the other guys opinion the most but I've taken my TG off as I felt they were causing an imbalance. I can pretty much move around forward/backwards/sideways and land it ok but have been flying without them now. I've had times where the heli has been titlted and the blades still strike so if you have a heli such as the B400 the blades will be cactus and you'll bend the feathering spindle. Anyway I crash it doing piros aswell as I did with the training gear

I've only just got mine and done 2 battery packs, and no where near hovering yet.
For me to be comfortable enough to take the training gear off in stationary hovers, I took them off on the second flight of my raptor 30v2, I had a first session of about 2 hours. With Tg off I was then moving left and right passing in front of me, tail in. Then next go moving away and back again.
No rush though I don' t think, only grew a set recently and had a go at flat figure of eight's, thats where it will bite you if you get disorientated.
Don't rush, I did with my small electrics, which are much harder too fly, ended up with a 4 crash outa 5 flights crash count
I feel hovering is second nature now, so im looking at moving side on moving across my position to complete figure eights.
Get a feel for it and it will be like riding a bike (you'l fall off every now and again

          cheers
