  • newbie to the sport want to buy my first real heli

hi there guys, hope a couple of you feel like sharing some knowledge, i am new to rc heli's have been flying a co-ax for a little while have always fancied a challenge and flying a proper rc heli, as have been into rc cars for years but still onto the point.

i would like some advice on what first 4 or 6 channel helicopter to buy, i am going to say a budget of around 150ish for the heli, not including any spares i will buy at the time. what would you guys suggest the ones that stand out to me are

ESKY HONEY BEE BELT CP V2

    Esky HONEY BEE KING 3

    E-FLITE BLADE mSR

    or

    TWISTER CP GOLD

Venom night ranger 2 or 3d

any help and advice would be much appreciated

I started off learning on a Nine Eagles Solo, same as the Blade MCX. Perfect to throw around and get the feel for the controls.
Then I went onto the Blade MSR. Fook it was a different experience first of all. Very twitchy and quick. But I feel the perfect stepping stone to progress onto the first 'real' heli being a collective pitch.
So in answer to you question, I would go for the MSR, no question.

Its the same process though. Once you get used to flying the MSR around as confidently as you did your first heli, then you can move on to your first collective pitch. Just as I have just done this week, with the Blade 400. Its another league again, but for me thats where the fun lies. Learning all over again.

Good luck fella. Feel free to ask any more q's.

Yes I would advise the Blade MSR as a cheap way into single rotors, before moving up to say a Blade 400. Esky stuff is OK, but quality is not that good and I would avoid to be frank, having started that way myself. There are a lot of differences when you move up from a co-ax to a ccpm machine like the Trex 450 etc. So this is a good idea to go in between with the MSR.

I'd suggest you read this thread which covers exactly what your asking.

The twister 3d for £140 looks a great bargain, and you can upgrade bits in future if you want to get DX6i radio, extra batteries, chargers etc etc !

The MSR is great fun, and certainly more like a proper heli than an MCX etc, but its still not really like flying a proper heli as its very stable, and you can only really hover it, or zoom around semi out of control. I'd suggest its a nice toy to have for messing about inside when its too wet or windy to fly a proper heli like a Twister 3D/Blade400.

I have a Twister Gold and have been happy with it. It is cheap to repair, which is a big bonus for a beginner

Avicraft are doing a deal on Twister Storms (£150), but that may be a bit much as a 1st start.

Agree with above if this this your first real heli then stay away from the esky range, The MSR is good and will give you a idea of whats to come. If you have to go straight in and get a 400 size then either a Trex 450, Blade 400 or twister storm.
