  • question time again?:)

Lately all i seem to be doing is bending peoples ears on this forum
Suppose this is what the beginner section is designed for
    Well I have another question...
I'm currently am running a tt39 engine in my rappy 30v2, now this is proving a bit of a pain to tune and I have been reading it can be, especially the low speed needle, and getting the midrange spot on.

Been reading bits and pieces online, mainly about the OS 32 and 37 engine, seem to get good reviews. Would it be worth it upgrading to a 32? as the 37 would gulp the fuel as much as the tt39? And to be honest im a tight bugger and was suprised when I hovered a tank out in a little more than 12 mins

So looking for reliablity, economy, and easily tuned, with enough power to learn on for a year or two..OS 32??!!

    cheers

The OS37 is a very good little engine for the Raptor. I know you can use the OS 32 but it will be a noticeable drop in power. Both are generally reliable and easy to tune.

Apparently the TT39 can be made to perform well with some tweaking. There is a needle mod I have heard about but I have never owned one myself.

Lucky you dont have a 700 then.

Os 37 is a great little engine and IMO far more easy to set up than the TT39. As already said I've heard if you can get it to run ok the 39 can be a power horse but the 37 works straight out of the box.

Yeah I have an OS37 with a Zimmerman pipe and have never had to do more than fine tune the high needle by a few turns now and then.

I have an OS32 with a pull-start that I have considered putting on something but I have a feeling it would be too down on power. If the Raptor could be about 3 or 4 hundred grams lighter it would probably be the ultimate economy nitro with a .32.

mmmm, maybe will just persist with the tt39 then, until its worth upgrading to the OS 37, looked about and there isn't too many nearly new examples, which I suppose shows how highly they are regarded, no one sells them!.

I ran an OS37 in my Rappy for three years & never touched the needles from new. Really good engine.

I have a friend who has a 32 in his Rappy & there is not too much spare power left over for those 'emergency' moments

You'll really appreciate a 37 I know, but I'm not familiar with your current motor & its tuning.

I have a mate with a Rappy 30 and it has my old OS32 in it - he gets about 15 - 20 mins on half a tank of fuel! Very good engine (was in my old heli as well) and enough power for sports flying in a 30 size. Also increadibly reliable and bearings etc are cheap.

I wouldn't hesitate in using another OS32 in a 30 size, OS37 is up in power against the .32 but the bearings are an odd size which arent easily (or cheaply) available, not that that is really any reason not to use one.

Very good engine (was in my old heli as well) and enough power for sports flying in a 30 size. True, but for that added security a 37 would be better. Also increadibly reliable and bearings etc are cheap. Very true.

Thats what forums are for mate OS are good relieable engines TT ones can be a bit hit and miss! Go for the 37 more power or you could go the hole hog and up grade the heli to a 50 and have a hole lot more punch for when you wont it. even a 50s not that bad on fuel if you are learning and just hovering about.

Hi, my tt39 runs like a dream, cant tell you how to tune it as I have only leaned mine out a little in 18 months, as for fuel consumtion I am at the lazy 8ts stage and only fill it up to just over 1/2 a tank plus header for each flight as I loose consentration if I put any more in. Stick with the tt39 a bit longer.
Could yours be to rich if it uses so much fuel ?

I think my low end needle is running to rich and high end was far too lean, bad combo!!

Trouble is the last attempt I was running hot to start with and tried to richen it, by then the engine was a hot hot hot

Going to stick with the tt39 for the time being

OS 37 is on cards, not yet though going to see if a good 2nd hand examples crops up.

                      cheers
