Weather great today in the north east today around 12ish, no wind, sun breaking though, filled the rappy 30 tank up and headed for the local footy field.
Got to get the engine tuned, that was my goal for today and thought im going to crack it!!

Too be honest I struggled a bit with it, started off by making a boob, the last time I was out the engine was running way too lean in the hover, and losing power, thus needing more throttle to hang there steady. Only changed the needle about a quarter anti clockwise turn. This must have still been way to lean, same happened, loss of power. Engine very hot, couldn't cool it down from there I thought, even with a rich needle setting, so decided to call it a day and head home, factory setting then go from there I thought.

Checked all of my gear before packing it up for the 5 min walk home, wheres my glow starter?!!
Looked all over the field, no where to be seen?
Took the canopy off...there it was still stuck to the glow plug!!
The engine was running that hot it stuck the plastic inside the glow starter to the front of the engine!! couldn't budge it, walked home in a huffy.
Finally prized it off, glow starter knackered, plug ok, plastic still stuck to engine, although glow plug still goes in okay.

New glow starter needed, and think about what im doing at the field a bit more, bit more thought and less eagerness to get heli in the air was the thought for today

Oops! don't be too hard on yourself, Simon, we all do stupid things from time to time. I won't go into details, but my best effort to date has left me with 3 scars on my left hand.

In years past I before fitting a remote glow lead, I left my starter and more than once. With the remote glow lead you can't leave it on as the glow stick is attached to the side of the heli and is very obvious

Thanks Brian thats very good of you to say, it does make me feel just a little better, not that you have scars from a heli injury !! but that others do make mistakes, silly ones, especially newbies

        cheers

In spite of my post count, I'm still pretty much a newbie myself, and I was a REAL newbie when I collected my scars.

No major damage done in your case, so carry on & enjoy this brilliant hobby.

Ironically this heli was bought 2nd hand this year and had a remote glow fitted, and I took it off!! didn't know how it worked(do now so just thought its complicated enough this heli lark so tried to simplify things

By the way dedcalm, do you know where to pick up the little fitting which attaches to the earth lead and to your engine? thats the bit I pulled off

            cheers

Could have been worse, he could have done it the other way around and left it at the field!
