  • Need help with all this expensive buying

    Hi Guys,

Well after having recieved another £150 quids worth of equipment for my heli I have to say I'm absolutely gutted again.

The spending never every seems to stop and I haven't even got what I need to get my new heli flying yet, which I wanted to do for xmas.

I've just bought Pheonix which is great so far but my battery went flat in my newly bought futaba FFS. I've just also bought the Prodigy 2 charger, gone to that thinking I can charge it with that, but I'm greated with two crock clips and fat manual and me scratching my head thinking fu*k.

Can I charge my Futaba with this or do I have to buy ANOTHER charger to add to my collection of 4? (some for RC Cars too).

As you can tell I'm losing my way with this a bit. Getting a tad upset about something I'm hoping to love.

Can anyone tell me what I need to charge my bloody FF7 or will the prodigy do it?

Still on the to get list is as follow...

    Fuel?
    Crysal?
New bloody reciever for the Trex as I've sold the Sanwa and didn't think they had to be paired up.
And some of the right connections to make this prodigy two work
Oh and I forgot. I need a car or camping battery now too. Oh and a box to carry it all, oh and a bigger car to carry it all.

Am I losing the plot here or do I just need a little hand holding?

Sorry for the rant, just a little naffed and looking forward to some flight.

    Jim
    Cheers

Can't speak for the Futaba but I used to charge my JR radio with a Prodigy 2, just set it to NiCad, keep it under 1c but under an amp (if an 800ma pack then don't charge at more that 800ma) plug it in and press and hold the go button then wait.

You should be able to make a lead, find an old power supply with the correct plug on it, chop off the lead and bung in to the progigy - good idea to check polarity first but fairly sure the charger will tell you if you got it wrong - mine do.

http://web2.murraystate.edu/andy.bat...Y.HTM#POWER_OK gives you design for an old PC PS 12 V supply. The Futaba has a 9.6V 800mAh NiCd in as standard - no probs witrh charging this via an adaptor lead to the side port from your Prodigy - 80mA for slow or 200mA for fast charge.

This is half the battle for me though. I'm simply not a diy man at all, I need to buy things that dont require any thought or additional 'bodging' by myself as I'm simply no good at it.

I dont even have an unused power supply that will fit the transmitter.

I've been trying to force my old Sanwa charger into the jack but it wont go at all and they look to be the exact same fit.

        <big sigh>

I now have yet another expensive charger that I'm too stupid to use, or bodge into a useable item.

        GOD I'M FRUSTRATED

Can't even use my new copy of Pheonix now.

Any other links to a quick fix to this?

Time of year sucks too as I can't really get any hands on help. Cheers for the replies guys nice to know I'm not alone.
        Cheers

Cossie if you dont want any diy goto your local model shop and get these

            plug your charger into this
            http://www.jperkinsdistribution.co.u...tname=Chargers

Ask at the shop for a lead suitable to connect your prodigy to your futaba tx
            cant find a picture
            But most shops stock em

This is the sort of lead you need to connect from the charger to the tx

The adaptor plug for your TX will have a smaller pin size up the middle so although they look the same they don't fit - during your trip to Maplins take the Tx along and find a plug to fit it - attach two wires and then plug into your Prodigy- if you're not a fiddle about sort of person (no not Uncle Ernie) then you're going to find building & maintaining helis a problem.

Again guys, thanks for all the replies.

Think I'm a tad gumpy (new baby NO sleep, time off looming and not ready yet) as having a bit of a hard slog at the moment.

We have 4 days till Xmas, I have a lovely heli ready to fly and I keep buying extra's which haven't quite got me to the 'lets fly' stage yet.

Dont mind a bit of fiddling John, but right now I just wanna pay what ever it takes for someone else to get me flying during the Christmas break. Its odd that I'm doing the money chucking and not quite moving as quickly as I need want to.

Gazza will this work then? Silicone Transmitter Field Charging Lead (Futaba, Traxxas)

If I order that will my charging issues be solved?

Is it easier for me to take the bat pack out and charging it that way somehow? What set ups are you guys using?

                Cheers

You need to power your prodigy charger with some sort of 12v supply
and then that lead will connect from your prodigy to your futaba tx and charge it
check the battery in your tx if its nicad or nimh and set the charger for which type it is, I would think its a nicad as some one said b4,
Set your prodigy up as per the manual for your battery type and 800mah this is a safe rate to charge at

Do you have any links for a super quick delivery that I could buy from, pref taking paypay for speed?

Only have a day to try and get this sorted else I lose my flying window.

If you go to your nearest model shop or even hobby stores they will have the leads for sale most model shops do
Tell them in the shop what you need and what your charger is you should find them helpfull

                          Hi guys,

Yeah I ordered Pheonix and the Prodigy charger from them. Very quick with delivery.

Nearest model shop to me is about 30 miles away and my working hours make it impossible for me at the moment.

Looks like I'm stuffed for now unless Rev can help me out over the phone. Just gutted I can't even get any sim time now either
                          Cheers

                            Ok guys check this out.

Dont really want this to beat me, and if I can't fly my heli I at least want to enjoy Pheonix.

What I've done is this. I've taken my Sanwa charger which is a basic affair that I had supplied with my Trex. I've butchered the connectors to plug into my RX. All appears when and the charger light comes on but I didn't want to leave it without running the specs of the basic charger past you guys. Here they are...

                            Ni Cd Battery charger
                            input : 230v ac 50hz 5va
                            Output : tx dc9.6v 75mA
                            Rx DC4.8v 75mA

If this is ok then I'm a happy happy man.
                            Cheers

Should be fine as long as you got the polarity the right way round. Of course it would be an overnight charge and not a quick charge. But as long as your flying the phoenix sim without the crystal in the transmitter then the battery should last a while. I wouldnt even bother attempting to fly your heli mind no matter how much your itching. Not until you have got all the relevant equipment and someone who knows what they are doing flying it first and showing you how to go on. Hopefully by the time your at that stage you'd have mastered phoenix sim and will find the heli not so hard. And did you not mean youve butchered the wires to fit the side of the TX?
