  • exhaust and orientation

I've flown my electric x400 mainly close to.
Practising on Phoenix, I find the exhaust trail a great help with orientation and telling which way the heli is going when it is getting a bit far away (on the screen). however I reckon the exhaust is more visible on the sim than real life (from long past fixed wing recolections).
So is this true in real life - that the exhaust trail helps you tell whats going on, or not?

helis are generally much smokier than planes. their fuel has more oil in it and yes it does make a difference.
