  • IC heli and fuel types

Hi, when I first got my century hawk pro I went to a local model shop and purchased the only type of 20% fuel that they had. It's called Model Technics Big Bang 20% with Sical and is a molecular blended fuel.

The question I have will this be ok to use with an SC .30 sized engine?
From what I see on here most seem to use Optifuel.

Dont see a problem with using it ,as long as its for heli use i use 20% with all my engines.

I used to use this exact fuel in a 21 size off road car when I raced, I will say you do need to keep an eye on how warm the engine run's because if I remember correctly Bigbang dosent use the well known Klotz lube, Other than that I don'nt see why you should'nt use it.
Are you going to use it in a heli?

Well I know 20% is what is recommended to use with this but wasn't sure if there had to be a different type designed for planes/helis. This one I think says on it for offroad.

        I guess it is offroad

Sean, yeah I want to test run the Century Hawk Pro as I've rebuilt it and stripped the engine and cleaned it of rust. So want to test start and give it a run and check the heli is running ok.

Darryl, If you've gone to the trouble of an engine overhall I would get the correct fuel, stupid thing is if you did the exact opposite I don't think you'd have a problem (ie: heli fuel in a car) but i would'nt risk it. If a car engine fails you walk over to it and mutter, if a heli engine fails you walk to the nearest model shop and hemarige money. LOL.

Looked on Model Technics website, Big Bang only contains 10% EDL Oil.

lol I tried high nito% on my shuttles OS32 - it didn't like it at all - was either full throttle or nothing. think it was 30% i tried actually.

bekra 16 / 16% nitro was the best I found for my OS32. not too harsh for the mechanics lol.

Where could I source some Optifuel or any other good heli fuel. Should I use Optifuel 12% to start off with?

I live in Fareham, Hampshire near Portsmouth. I haven't called Hobbystores but I know Fratton Models wouldn't stock it (they're useless).

12% sounds good. hobbystores have some fuel but not a good selection.

Mainly trains and planes in Eastleigh will have some heli fuel - probably the stuff that stinks - model technics pro power or whatever its called or channel 4 models in Christchurch - they'll have Bekra type- bit of a trek for you though. If you want fancy fuel it will probably have to be ordered and delivered. Best to phone up places for fuel before going.

                      good luck mate.

I'll probably order it from Fastlads as Sussex only sell from the shop not online.
