  • Newbie Accessories/tools ??

    Hi Guy's,

So which of the mass of tools accessories and general must have gizzmos do I really NEED

The Mfr's tell us "Our Blades are pre-balanced" or "our blades are a perfect matched pair" yet the shops tell me I need a blade balancer, Do I ?

One supplier sells three different pitch guages on his US website and the info on each states it is THE BEST What guage do I actually NEED ?

Main Blades, well i am at a loss on these, There appears to be so much contradiction on what blades do what ?

As I read it, the std wooden main blades on my aptor titan kit are for hovering rev's only and I should change to Carbon blades for anything else. But then the advice starts contradicting it's self depending where I look. Some claim 620mm Carbon blades will be more stable for a begginer than say 600mm carbon blades, then they start talking about flat tip and angle tip What do I NEED ?

I use a pair of wine glasses to ballance blades - bolt 'em together and ballance the bolt between the glasses but no need to on new carbon blades.
    Clones are bad

      Okay,

Blade Balancer the best way is Blue tak to hold 2 credit cards upright then get the blades to balance on it.
Blade Balancing the easy way for you

Wine Glass way is well known as well and ideal

Pitch Gauge choose a good one unless your a Pro Ade did mine without a Pitch gauge I was impressed!

Wooden Blades are good for 1st flights and circuits but keep the headspeed under 18000rpm. 620mm Will make the Helicopter more stable for you as thats a big disc spinning. 600s will be stable but won't load up as easy.

For sport flying stick to basic blades for now you don't/won't make use of the fancey blades for a while.

I know a bloke who flys near Cambridge and runs his Raptor 50 at 2300 - sounds like he's revving the nuts off the thing.

Good hex driver set (the ones that you can replace the ends like Century ones),
              Good pitch gauge (Robbe),
              Ball link pliers,
              A good set of screwdrivers,
              Blue Loctite (243 I think)
              Superglue
              Insulation tape

No need for a balancer yet on any of my blades.

              I hope this helps.
              Cheers, Lee.

Even Thomas's 2 wine glasses seemed a bit elitest but then again when you are part of the Polo set I guess its just normal

When I first started and had to balance my woodies, I stood two CD cases up and used that.

                    Cheers,

You need a tacho to accurately check head speed.
They come in various guises, but the best I've seen so far is the SkyTach.
You look through a hole in the unit at the heli and push buttons on the skytach until the blades look stationary while in flight - then the LCD display will tell you a fairly accurate head speed.

                        Cheers,

POLO SET - where'd you get that idea from? just cos I live 3 miles from a Polo club doesn't mean I part of the set.

I'sn't there a bowles club near you? guess you must play then, I can just picture you having afternoon tea with the wrinklies on the lawn
