  • Receiver Battery ??

    Hi Guy's

    I am undecided on the receiver power source for the following setup;

    Raptor 50 Titan fitted with Futaba GY401 / 9254, Futaba 149DP Receiver, 4 Futaba S3152 Servo's and a Rev Lock 10 Govoner.

Should I go for a Nicad Pack that I can charge from the same charger as my FF9 or would you recommend LiPo and a regulator ?

    Cheers.

Lipo and Reg is the way to go now but a NiCd or even NiMh pack will do the job for a lot less initial cash

Some advice I took from this site was to buy a decent checker (Futaba BR2000). This gives a truer reading of the state of the nicad than a simple on-board l.e.d jobby. Second, put the cahrger onto one of those mains timer units and top up the battery ( + TX batt) for an hour a day when you're not flying.

I use 2100mah Rx batts & it seemed good advice & seems to work. I think if I ever get to the stage of many flying hours per day it will have to be Lipo & regulator, but for two or three of flights the above suits me

High capacity Nicad or Nimh is fine

Im using 2400mah Nicads on all my 50`s

May consider going to a regulator at a later date though

I assume that means they are 12v packs and your using some sort of voltage dropper is that right ?

No i use 4.8v Nicads at the moment and they work fine

I reckon a regulator like the Arizona one that RealRaptors do is a good worthwhile upgrade though

They typically run on a 7.4v Lipo and are regulated down to a selectable voltage of between 5 and 6

The only problem with running 4.8v nicads etc is when you are using all digi servos etc like i am and pushing everything hard, the voltage being supplied gets pulled down as the Nicad is unable to cope

Running a regulator at 7.4v means it gives a constant good voltage whatever you throw at it

              Thanks Guys,

I have gone for a sort of Mid-ground on this one, the 4.8v MAh3600 NMHI.

I looked at going down the lipo and regulator route when my original 2400mah Nicads went past their use by date. In the end though I decided on a couple of 4.8v 3600Mah NiMH packs, and have them attached to the model with velcro and a strap. This means I can be charging one pack while flying with the other, and they are changeable in a matter of seconds.

                  Cheers,
                  Pete.
