  • Blade Tracking

    I was flying all day on saturday and then all day sunday, Blades were all tracked ok.

    I went to have one last flight on sunday and as I took off I noticed that the blades were out of track, by quite a long way (they had been in track for all my other flights during the weekend and I had not crashed or even had a heavy landing)

    I have had a quick look at the head and it all seems to be ok, do blades sometimes just go out of track or should I be stripping down the head and having a better look? I will check the blades are still in balance, but what else could cause this?

    Blades = Torsion Fibre Glass 600mm
    Heli = Raptor 50

    TIA

    Blades do sometimes go out of track, but it's normally confined to woodies. Try a different set of mains and see if it is still out.

    Check none of the links have pulled on the rod. I.e. Make sure the plastic link hasn't got stripped threads and is starting to slip. Also check that the head is tight on the shaft. I noticed tracking changes on my R90 after putting different blades on. It was weird because in normal mode, the tracking was spot on, but in idle 1, it was out. I found the collar at the base of the head which holds the guide pins for the washout unit was loose and the head was rocking on the shaft.

      worn dampeners can cause this as well as a bent featering spindle, if you did not crash tho, i would check the dampeners, they might even look ok but I would change them anyway if nothing else seems to be at fault fella.

        Thanks, will have a look tonight.

        I dont have any other blades, but may be able to borrow some.

        Forgot to menton, the dampers have only had about 20 flights on them.

          Loose screws on the upper mixing arms gave it away on my rex 500... so look for slop between the blades and the servo see if anything has more movement than you would expect...

            unless somethings come loose I'd bet its dampners, even new ones can be made faulty same as you can get a bent mainshaft through the post.
