  • Blade MSR - takes a walk on the wildside :)

Well I just got my Blade MSR and was getting a bit cramped indoors so decided to take it outside into the football park. Decided to take it central of the park about 30-40m away from the tree/bushes that line the road. There was a bit of a wind about 5mph but a few gusts. Anyway I had a bit of a fly around and then a bit of a hard landing.

Tried to take off again and it started tilting into the grass. Looked at the swashplate and it wasn't level so decided to try and level it a bit. So attempted to level it up. Attempted to take off again but couldn't as it kept tilting. So I held it and throttled up and managed to get airborne from a thrown takeoff.

It was going around a bit and was about 5-6m off the ground. Next minute I know a gust of wind came along and I faced it towards me and put a bit of forward cyclic. No good the gust was too fierce and it started to head over the tree line and for the road. Otherside of the road is houses so I didn't want to land it there. So I just zero throttled it and hoped for the best even though I could hear cars coming along the road.

Went around and walked along the footpath and was wondering if it got caught in the trees which I thought to myself would be an impossibility to find. I kept on walking and looked at the road expecting to see a flattened mess. On the otherside of the road, sitting about 20cm from the edge of the road but still on it was the MSR. I'm not sure if it hit a car and ended up there or what but it was sitting there unscathed. I didn't see the blue light on so not sure what happened. Anyway I picked it up and took it home. Put the other battery on and it flashed away so it's still ok.

Will have to straighten out the linkages and level the swashplate but besides that it survived landing on a busy road

Nice tale and glad it had a happy ending. I found, at my field yesterday, you really do need a still day. It's less sensitive than the mCX to the wind, but still doesn't like anything much more than about 1 on the Beaufort scale.

I never looked at it stripped down when it first arrived. Is it me or does some parts look distorted/not true. For instance where the motor connects to the main shaft and swashplate it looks for a better word "****ed".

So if looking at the back of it, is the shaft suppose to be travelling from left to right?

So it is! RGPuK said that in an earlier post and, having looked at it again, mine is too. Bottom to the left, top to the right.

Hereinafter referred to as the wonk.

Ok so it is deliberate and not some **** poor chinese plastic moulding company

Seems to go alright once I've set the trim.

Can you charge the two batteries simultaneously or can you only either chage 1 battery at a time or all 4 simulatenously? Just a tad confused by the docos

I can feel your panic now mate lol - Not a nice feeling knowing your heli may never be seen again lol. Had that feeling once with my 450 (had a 35MHz radio freeze / lock out or whatever and it almost flew off into the distance before I got control again)

                Glad it's back safe

HeHe! Brings back memories of me flying my 500 in an inappropriate area & losing it - the looking for it in the pitch & putt course next to the playing field I was on!

Sounds like you had a really lucky escape!

You can charge as few or as many as you want.
                    i.e. Just 1 or 2 or 3 or all 4
