  • She's out of the box (at last)

finally took the blade out of the box last night, what a fantastic and frightening expirience, i've got really good with the contra rotating spirit and phoenix(well let's say some days are definately better than others). so last night a friend and i went out and put the balls on the bottom to give her a little test, i wont say fly all we done was to get her off the ground and land without doing any damage, but just to get that far felt good.

No damage on first flight sounds good to me Anyw. Take it steady and don't rush, as you found out it's a lot different to a co-axial.

Sounds good! Keep up the good work and, perhaps most importantly, be patient - learning to fly these things takes time!

agree with others, and if it doesnt feel right then you need more sim time. Having a prang can really knock your confidence.

knock your confidence..........! nicely put & very true my advise is imagine a circle then you just lift off land in that circle & keep doing it untill you've perfected that, then you can move on to say moving hovers with the skill knowing you can land safely.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

i am going tobe very patient(i hope), it is a massive leap from coaxial has already said but i am going to take this steady and do most of my work on the sim, the main reason for taking her out last night was when i went to charge the battery up it showed a fault so i took it back to the shop, he is still unsure whetther it is the battery or charger at fault or both so i thought i better try out the copter to see if everything was working on her, as i said it was basically lift off and land a few times, but in my mind it was a giant leap

Which Blade have you got? The 400 3D? If so it will be damaged in no time Mine is already awaiting spare parts as I did some major damage to it the other day when I went to take it out for a flight. The good news is that the parts are fairly cheap.

The blade is a great little heli to learn with I've done about twenty flights each time putting two packs through and I can now hover nose in and do my left and right hovers.

I remember my first ever flight with the blade after just flying my CX2 around, the head speed seem so fast . but now seems fine to me.

Keep at it you'll get there.

mines been bashed up twice and been in the air all of about 6 seconds HAHA, much more sim time for me as i jumped like you from a cx2 to a blade 400.

As for the charger error i have had 3 of the chargers and their all totally useless, none will charge a battery all say they have errors. Battery is fine and i use my proper charger and enjoy trips to the model shop returning the blade charger lol

I agree with all the superb advice from the others, plus you have the correct attitude "don't rush", you'll have plenty of slight ding dongs along the way so what ever the result in loss of control - "kill the throttle straight off," a hard landing is fine and you'll poss break a few blades and shafts, so on that score start building up a spares collection, main & feathering shafts, flybars, blades, spare head components, booms, 1 set of landing gear, couple of servos, roughly £50 will see you OK for the basics.

As for the chargers, with most RTF's the balance charger isn't of great quality, more of "keeps you going when you start", I use the Cellpro chargers, and for you the 4S £55 will be fine, plus a PSU £40, or buy a sealed 7amp hour 12V gell batt £15, and a 350mah charger £8, you can't use car chargers on the gell types as the highest charge there take is 1amp, so the 350mah transformer type chargers are perfect, also if your out the house say at a field it'll make your charger perfectly portable, just leave it on charge during the night, or when you don't need it as it'll regulate the charge current when the batt is full, plus it'll save you a few quid on a PSU

Try and have the ESC connector changed to a male Deans, and you E-Flite batt changed to a female Deans, E-flite batts are... well not great and stupidly expensive, we've recently found a Li Po manufacturer that sells batts of excellent quality for normal flight called Loong Max, my friend uses a 2250mah 20C with he's B400 and it doesn't even get warm for £16, a far cry from the rip off offerings E-flite sell!

I had problems with my E-Flite Charger that came with the Blade 400 when using a power source that was only rated at 12vdc 1amp which was just a plugin transformer used for electronics. Then I spotted that one of my portable hdd had a 12vdc transformer that was rated at 1.5amp and plugged that in and it worked fine.

If you've purchased a Blade MSR you'll note that the Celectra has a 12vdc plugin transformer aswell and this is also rated at 1.5amp so will probably work just fine with the Blade400 Balancing charger.
