  • raptor 30 tail blades?

Could anyone suggest a decent set of carbon tail blades for my raptor 30? Still got plastic tail blades, and want a decent set on the tail, although not to be breaking the bank also

    cheers

Depends what you really want out of it. Being a 30.. I think they use 85mm tail blades, so any carbon ones will be an improvement in responsiveness over the standard plastic ones.

    Here are some rotortech ones

If you check the Midland Helicopters, they have the bbt 85mm tails which are cheaper.

I think that it will not clear the main blades.. If you went inverted and punched it up, it would be very likely that the main blades will make contact with the tail blades.

..also the bigger the tail blades, the more power is required to power them. You may find that having only a 30 size heli, the motor will not cope with them.

If it helps, the 30 and the 50 Raptors both use the same size tail blades in the kit.

Personally, if I was intent on changing the standard tail blades to carbon, I would have gone for one which was the same size. They don't seem to have quoted the chord size, so don't know if they are any wider than your standard ones. Assuming they are the same chord size, they will have less push than the standard 85mm blades.

Are you trying to achieve better tail authority/response, or are you just going for cosmetic reasons?

Could leave you with a very vague tail, not really giving the gyro much help with 80mm blades. 92mm would be optimum.

I thought 92mm tails just cleared on a raptor 50 and would be too long on the 30 as it could make contact with the main blades in manouvers. ie fast inverted climbouts.. or any pitch pumping.

Maybe wrong.... long time since I had a Raptor but quite sure on it.

Not as l remember but some 550 blades are not always 550 so you`d have to watch that. 92mm is right on the limit. 85mm will work fine for most of us.
