  • vibrations and spinning!

    Hi all
Started the beast up for the first time ,raptor v2, os 32 engine.
Idles ok but when I get to about 25% throttle and the blades are spinning up the entire heli shakes a lot and also rotates counter clockwise. Now I relise that's what helis do and the tail rotor sorts that but when I give it right tail rotor it makes no diff. The rotor moves as it should, gyro (non hh) is working. Any ideas?
The main blades seem quite floppy as in I can grab the flybar and move it up and down when all the servos are attached. There seems to be nothing to stop it flapping about. is it supposed to be fixed and only move when the servos tell it?

Also! How messy are these things! The patio is a mess now and I'm in trouble... If I use it on the grass will the exhaust kill it??? More trouble!
    Grateful for any opinions!

That is normal flybar movement. That is how mine is on the Blade 400 3D and the Century Hawk Pro. Does the tail rotor pitch change when providing left-stick left-right movement? As you should be able to counter the rotation by inputting opposite yaw/rudder. Although I do believe the gyro should be countering this automatically if I'm not mistaken (newbie myself).

Also I wouldn't dare attempt to fly this anywhere near your house (or a neighbours house) unless you have a farm/large field for a garden
Most definately not on your patio.

    Regards

      Cheers for the reply.
I'm glad the flybar movement is normal!
The pitch of the tail rotoe does move as it should it just doesn't seem to have any effect??? The gyro is moving (per some instruction somewhere I move the nose left and the tail rotor linkage automatically goes as if you were steering right.) As it should.
I had the thought of revo mix as it isn't set yet on my radio however if it was that then surely a right stick input would stop the rotation anyway even if revo wasn't set?

As for flying in garden I'm not that daft. I was just starting it up and getting it something like before I venture to the field.
      Cheers.

Fair enough regarding starting in the garden. I'd still be scared though that it might go pearshaped and end up through somebodies window

is the belt tight enuff? mite be slipping and more to the point have you got the tail going the right way?? maybe you twisted the belt the rong way, do yourself a fava and get a HH gyro, a gp750 or something along those lines, it will make you lifeso much easyer lol!!!

I agree with petey, a HH gyro makes life so much easyer. Its a very worthwhyle investment.

If you have alot of vibration then you need to check that your blades are ballanced and that everything in the head is straight.

Is this a new model or second hand?

The blades should move about a bit as they are mounted on rubber dampers.
If these rubbers are worn out then you can get too much movement and problems.

What gyro do you have on it just now?

The giro is an el cheapo piezo thingy. Not sure of the make. Its a new chopper although I built years ago and forgot about it. Only now am I getting back into it.
Slight breakthrough in that it doesn't vibrate now. Some of the screws weren't as tight as they should have been.
The tail now rotates as it should left and right.
Def needs setting up as I got it to near lift off and it started swinging a bit.
Ill invest in a hh giro I think!
One of the servos was the wrong way round so have fathomed that!
At least its getting there now though.
                  Cheers guys
I think ill find a club nearby!

A number of my G5s do this to a degree (DS760 gyro) when I spin them up in rate mode. Violent tail wag. I switch into HH mode & take off and theyr'e fine (aside from the pilot...).

On one I've noticed that the tail is close to zero on zero yaw input (crap set-up on my part - DS760 takes care of it in HH mode). Applying a yaw input to give some tail pitch seems to stop the tail thrash. I think it will go away if I set the tail up properly, and put in more tail pitch at 'zero'.

scally, lower the rate mode gain to match you HH rate, it will stop
