But in answer to your question, the CSM 560 micro is probably close to the 401 in size and performance.
However the 401's are very flexible and adaptable and are quite often fit and forget on most models. The CSM 560 is a great gyro but it does work best in optimum conditions (low vibration and good positioning) and does require internal tweaking for smaller models as the V4 software was designed for 90 size nitro models.
As a closing note the CSM 630 is as good as the 720, but without the PC interface connection for tweaking.
Andy This week I have been flying my Trex 600 FBL Heli mood =
The CSM720 is the one to get.
If you are in a club you can probably find someone who will lend you the usb interface if you want to tweak it. I'm using the 720 on my 450 with default settings and its excellent (As its on default its actually the same as a 630 I suppose).
The 401 is still a fine gyro but it won't do the same combination of precise hold with nice hard piro stops and no bounce or wag that you can get from the 720. Also the CSM will piro at constant speed nomatter what the wind.
However it is worth remembering that most people will not be flying any manoevres that cannot be done almost as well with a 401. But its heracy to say such a thing on here becuase we are all brainlocked into worshipping the latest slightly higher performance gizmo and blingyest bling

Dont spend more flying models than it costs to fly for real
+2 for csm 720 ... after using a 401 I thought I would try a different gyro and obtained a 720 second hand off of another member on here and have to say ... love the damn thing that am off to get another for my other knight which has a 401 on it

lt`s a no brainer to compare these two gyros. The 720 stands up to the 611 never mind the 401.
On the 450 size helis you will need to mount it fairly hard, not on the CSM soft tapes.
+2 for the 720. the earlier CSM gyros can suffer from drift but the 720 & 630 are spot on and are miles better than a 401, it will be capable enough for whatever level you fly at.

720 is fantastic gyro. I've finally put one on my 700 and I can't believe how good it feels. Pyro consistency is better than anything else I've tried by quite a long way too.
