  • lipo battery dead?

Think i may have killed my lipo battery its an ace lipo that came with my mini t, its a 2200 maH. I had done a bit of hovering and noticed a power change so landed and came in. Then tryed to setup my mini t up properly as the pitch wasn't right for me, buthad done that a few times, centering servo's and such, then my battery went totally dead, not even a glimpse of power. I have not got a balance charger myself(one on order), my dad however give it a whirl and it just read low voltage, have I let my cells get to low and goosed my battery?!

think i have if so is there anything to get it back to life?

    cheers

    Tough luck.
Check the cell voltage with a multimeter, just to be sure, if it's below 3 V per cell (9 V for the whole pack), throw it away.
Please DON'T experiment and try to bring it back to life. You'd risk a fire, immediately or later.

What happened is this: The ESC has low-voltage protection but only for the motor. The BEC (receiver / servos) keeps working until the LiPo dies.

And, get a balance charger. Even if it's only a small Esky junk charger for 800 mA. Balance it every five flights or so, otherwise you risk bad luck - in the worst case, again, a fire. This is serious, those LiPos can burn like fireworks.

If its damaged then there isnt anything much you can do to save it.

Try recharging it, it might still work for shorter periods. (As Gravitykills says, if its been completely flattened then just throw it away as damaged lipos are dangerous)

In the future time your flights so that you dont run the battery too low, or fit a lipo monitor if your not flying an entire pack in one flight.

If you dont ballance your cells then you are running the risk of damaging them so its good that you are buying a new charger, you will probably need another couple of batterys to go with it.
I bought some winforce cells from Hong Kong and im happy with them, 2450mah and 30C for £15 each (two in a pack)

Lipos are real dodgey, If you try what i have to suggest be very carefull.

I have had a positive result from doing this but I can't take any responability for the results,
Hopefully your charger has a nicad or NIMH charging option, Select either and reduce the current (Amps) to around 500Mah (half an amp) disconnect the balence lead and charge the battery for around 30 seconds in this mode (NO LONGER). Now reconnect the battery as normal and try to balance charge it as normal in lipo mode, if this still says low volt, try it ONCE MORE but only ONCE, if still no joy it's game over and just not worth the risk of poss fire or explosion.
Be sure to do this in an open area where if something were to go wrong you can take cover. A bucket of water near by that you can drop battery in if anything does go wrong might be an idea.
        Good Luck..

The best thing is to find someone with a cellpro10S (other chargers are available which may have similar features*) which may be able to recover the battery using a low voltage recovery mode. If the battery is still "hard" and hasn't outgassed and gone all squidgy then its worth a go.

downdraft is explaining how to do this recovery manually with a conventional charger - but that way you have to do it through the power connector and its likely the cells will be way out of balance- ie maybe only one is flat and the other two are fine. The cellpro (other chargers are available which may have similar features*) does the recovery charging individually on the three cells.

*other chargers probably don't have similar features
