  • gear mesh and belt tension

anyone got any good methods for accurate and economical gear meshing?
Heard the paper technique the best? putting paper in between pinion and main gear? and tail drive and main mear?
    Also on tail belt tension?

    Cheers

gear mesh, I use a folded fag paper between the teeth Simon, just so it runs through the gears without tearing, I think belt tension is pretty much fixed on the mini T ?,,,could be wrong though

(I've also redrilled the 2 mil hole for the tailgear retaining bolt about 1/2 mil down towards the gear at 90 degrees to the original to get the gear mesh even, this is just through the gear and sleeve, NOT the main mast)

tail belt tension is easy, once fitted push one side of the belt towards the other with keys or something similar and it wants to travel no more than half the distance to the other side.
As for gears etc I personally have it so that if you hold one gear and move the meshed gear due to the little distance between them it will rock back and forth about a half mm

      Before you ask:

      About 2 miles
      Over £500
      Very difficult
      Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

When meshing the main gear and pinion always try and find the high or tight spot on the main gear and set the mesh there. If you set the mesh on the low point then as the high point comes round it will be too tight and were the main gear and also the bearings in your motor.

Once you found the high spot on the main gear mark it with a pen or something so you can find it again if yuo take the motor out. If you replace the main gear you will need to check again as no two gears will be the same.

As for belt tension I allow about 5mm movement on my Raptor 30 and my Trex 500
