The sim is a very good way to learn how to fly a heli but is totally different in the real world from a confidence point of view. I always learn new manouvers using Phoenix and then take that to the field when I feel proficient enough on the sim. It is a very good tool and essential unless you have deep pockets and a big credit on your credit cards!

Looks like I will be spending more time on the sim then. At least until I've saved up some more dosh. It does seem to be a good tool and I thoroughly enjoy using it

I have noticed that with the sim, helis seem to be considerably more stable in flight when using the training gear. Does it really make that much difference ?

Sorry to keep asking so many questions

personally, I've only ever used training gear to get a "feel" for when the heli is about to lift off,(watch the cf booms for flexing up) cylic control feel on the ground ect,,,,found TG to be a bloody nuisance in the air, although from a low level tumble, they do give you chance to save your head/mainshaft/blades from damage when you come down cack-handed

Try setting a little wind/gusts/turbulence in Phoenix to make it more realistic - we are in the UK afterall. It's possible to hover a heli hands-off for long periods on the sim, definitely not so true in the real-world. Sims are more stable and 'exact' in my experience.

Re: Belt CP - I have one, wouldn't recommend it. Yes it's cheap, but like many have said, you really do get what you pay for! It can fly well if setup by astronauts, other than that, it tends to have a mind of it's own.

              Right,
Thanks for all the help gents

Have decided to take your advice and hang on in there for the B400.
Have been looking on the Bay to see if there are any decent used ones going, but still not sure about going that route.
Ill get there in the end.

              Cheers, and thanks again

                  Hi Tiddler
I think you've made the right choice mate. Keep learning on the sim while you save up.
While using the sim, try to discipline yourself into spending lots of time hovering in all directions instead of just whizzing about all over the place.

If you decide to go the second hand route, there are plenty of London flyers on here (myself included) who may be able to help you avoid buying a pile of crap.

Yeah I know what you mean. I do try hard to practice my hovering skills and as suggested have added a spot of wind to the sim. I'm definitely getting better at it. But it is hard to resist having a whizz about sometimes

I also get a bit of practice with my 4g1 fp heli when its not too windy outside. Just wish the battery would last a bit longer. I only get a couple of minutes out of it
