Thanks for response guys
I think i should go pick up some glow fuel and glowstart and try starting the Nexus 30 i got.
If it fires up ok and i can maybe source a set of blades i'll maybe just use it for training> Only thing putting me off is lack of spares avaliable for the old kyosho.
Regarding the 700 rex /60-90 raptor what's the pro's and con's on these heli kits apart from spares being more expensive than 30/50 class???

Hi all ok here we go.
Managed to sort out some fuel and glow start/picking up from model shop before work tommorrow.
Going to run the nexus beast..... plenty room in tiny shed for this...
I had a look on Vario uk site today at work and there's some nice heli's
I phoned and asked for price on The sky Kobold £418 for the kit
And was informed that i need to purchase there engine etc as there mounts are for there own units. It's 60. class £350 for complete engine kit incl muffler and other goodies.
Total £770 not incl postage.... any comments on vario???
I can only imagine the cost of spares!!
Think i will be purchasing a Trex 700.
Guys im not planning on doing crazy 3d flying just scale
In the far off future.
Now with regards to leccy or Nitro
Im going to go leccy if it's the TREX 700.
Leccy for 700 can be done.
Ok it's cash but hey it's a hobby and can be built over a period of time and when funds allow...
www.rcheliresource.com/align-t-rex-700-electric-conversion-from-heli-chris-with-videos/
Batteries thiking about using similar to these.
10 Pcs New A123 3.3v 2300 mah Lithium Ion Battery Cell on eBay (end time 17-Sep-09 09:26:27 BST)
(2 Reasons for Elec) Im a fan of big heli's!!!!! more to see in air!!!!
And I aint got a big enough shed to keep a 700/90 beast in it.
So leccy for the big bird.
That way i can have it as display piece in house and as it is leccy i wont get any smells from what should of been a nitro monster.
Unless i knock shed down and build bigger 1.
Need some suggestions regarding R/C
What to upgrade etc???
Nexus is running Standard S148 futaba servos
FP.G154 Gyro
138DF Rx
Skysports 6 heli Tx.
I have a Futaba 9C Super Tx sitting here will this be suitable for using in T-Rex 700 or vario or raptor 90??
Please post up recommendations for
Servos, Receiver and Gyro/digital servo for use in the Align Trex 700.
Thanks for the welcome and advice so far
Best regards

I have actually never seen a 90 size electric heli in the flesh. I have seen them on videos.
I like big helis as well (the Bell 47G is the biggest I have and actually it's too big to be practical).
Regarding the smell of nitro. It really doesn't smell IMHO. If you wipe off the excess fuel at the field, clean the heli well and plug the exhaust you won't smell it.
Gassers running regular petrol can smell but even they can be kept where they don't really smell unless you get your nose right to the vent tube or something. But what I want to try as soon as I can pick up some, is a type of petrol that is supposed to not smell (also burns cleaner), It's called Aspen Alkalyte petrol.
I know where you're coming from about the cleanness of electric, but I also like the smoke and the noise

'Speaking of Vario, they make an absolutely huge heli called the XLV. Someone at one of the clubs I belong to has one and it's seriously big;

XLV Benzin pod & boom kit
but...
£1800 heli + £500 engine + £220 per set of blades = very big ouch!
id still like one tho just for its impressive sizeIan
Dont own anything at moment and these shakes are getting worse every day

Trillian.
Do you or anyone else have any comments on vario Kobold or the xtreme???
Had an email from vario with prices etc.
Also found out that you can get an electric conversion for Kobold and extreme.
And you can get an electric conversion for the big yin you put a link to and also benzin trainer.
Running 12s lipo or 14s A123 batteries.
Really like look of vario kit's but just need someone with a little experience of there kits to say what they think.

My experience with Vario is only as an observer as I have not owned one myself but they are well respected and very popular with scale flyers.
There has been an xtreme (I think it's an Xtreme) on Ebay for a while and they keep lowering the price. It says it was a shop display model or something and has a Webra engine.
I know there are some Vario owners lurking here somewhere. In general they are considered high quality machines but are a bit pricey. The crash costs will be much higher than something like a Raptor or Trex.

Why don't you start out with a T Rex 700 E on 12S and see how you get on the Good thing is part's are not to badly priced.
I have a T rex 600 ESP and a T Rex 700 E and love them, a good thing about 700 on 12S is they don't kill the packs as much as it's on HV.
As a 600 on 6S will.
As for Packs you can bring 4 x 5000 in from HK for £200
Hobbycity Online R/C Hobby Store : Turnigy 5000mAh 6S 20C Lipo Pack $59.99
Vario's are nice Heli's but if you damage them they can cost a fair bit to repair.

Thanks trillian.
5exi. Although i hear what your saying regarding Trex/raptor dont get me wrong i like the look of 700 with leccy conv.
Thanks for links to batteries... My thoughts where a123 14s.
I'm Planning on using Nexus 30 to get started.
TBH im not looking to purchase another heli down the line.
I would be happy with just a large scale 1 so thats why i ask about vario and the others.
I dont really want to be paying out more for another kit in the future
Get it right first time... Imo
Ok costs wise i will probably need to take out 2nd mortgage to pay for vario parts.
Please by all means add to this as the more you add the more knowledge i can get on these kits. and of course anyone else looking to enter hobby can get an idea as well.
regards

Adam there is a couple of heli clubs around Aberdeen I believe (there is at least one) contact Craig33 on here who is a member on here and arrange a visit to his club (Aberdeen Aeromodellers) and see how some of the popular models fly!Del

Hey all.
5exi thanks for link.
Del i'll send him a pm thanks for that.
Was not able to get fuel etc today to try nexus modl shop closed early..... On a thursday i would of thought they would stay open later but hey ho.
I called fast lads for some advice etc and asked about conversion kit's for t700
was informed they dont do them doh!!!
My attention was brought to Avant Aurora 90 electric by the rather helpful chap.
Looked around on web found 1 but no price mentioned as yet.
Also called Vario Spoke about Electric conversion for kobold or xtreme.
Was informed that they do Either the silence or Argos Leccy heli's Silence being based on Skyfox mechs.
Im just trying to work out what is going to be more cost effective.
Vario, Needs conversion to elec so mechs needs work.
T700, same as above but relatively cheap for parts and it looks like the way to go. Providing you can purchase a conversion kit that wont rip gears apart when using leccy motor.
Aurora. Already electric, however new kit no price yet and unknown gremlins perhaps parts needing rework here and there.
Decent enough parts back up for vario but only 1 outlet in uk.
Trex decent supply of parts.
Avant unkown> Fast lads do sell but nitro vs not even in stock.
So think i'll hang fire on this for time being and just keep doing research.
If anyone else can think of a decent 90 size thats leccy or can be converted please by all means add to this.
Regards
adam

I'd say, get the Phoenix sim if you don't have it already and get flying on the sim. If you can get the Kyosho going see about finding someone who can help set it up and fly with you on a buddy box.
I don't remember if you mentioned your previous experience or not so ignore me if this is redundant.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Paul.
Maybe the boy who was on phone was agency staff?????
Yeah i hear that rumour also.
And hear that Thunder tiger are pulling the plug on there leccy 620 and other leccy range.
I've been reading up about conversion for T700 and quite a few people go on about this 1. Suzi-Hans T-rex 700 conversion
Not sure what im going to do. But if i hold off and save up more cash i can then afford to go for Trex own 700esp if when it comes out.
Will see what happens im not rushing into it i'll use some self control..... lol.
Thanks for link again
