  • Nose in

Just thought i would share this as i almost played law darts with my heli yesturday.

transfering from sim to real nose in:

Sim nose in, yep if your losing it try and recover... real flight don't, spin tail in recover then, set up try again. I did not do this yesturday... the heli was about sholder hight to the ground before i was able to recuse it from its fate with doom. gave me the shakes after that and was not able to do nose in for the rest of my packs hope that helps.

On a sym it's always easier, On the sym the nerves don't kick in as in your mind there is no problem crashing as in a second or 2 you have a new heli to try again.
But congrats on managing to recover, it's a learning curve, Soon you'll be nose in take off and landing, just take it step for step, there's no rush.

    Happy flying.
    Paul.

Just remember put the stick under the low part of the rotor disc, you'll find it will just suddenly click and you'll be able to do it !

Are you spinning to nose in on the spot ?

Your better to goto Lazy 8's then figure 8's Now the Figure 8 is the key!

Now flying figure of 8's the OO kind where the 2 Loops meet is where it will fly nose in for a short time before you fly and turn.

Now the important thing is to SLOW the Figure of 8 down at the approach towards yourself and keep slowing it down get used to turning out to continue the figure 8 BUT Slow it down every time and then it will JUST click and you'll have it in the Hover and when your ready you will turn gentle out of nose in to fly around

I done nose in hovering hops. That way i was always only no more than 8 inches of the ground & only when i could hold it for a whole pack did i increase height
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

Struggling with nose in here too. I can do side on not too bad. Just desperatly need to find a way to get more flight time in as only putting 2 - 4 batts a week through

I think it's more being mindful of a crash thats stopping me now. The 450 got a lot of energy and when I fly in the gym I don't want to put it in and thus I dont try new things. I flew my dads Hirobo SRB Quark earlier and after about a minute of hovering did two clockwise square circuits following the lines on the gym court. I cant do that with my 450 run out of guts as soon as the tail gets 10 degrees from tailin! :O

Just as disc says try and fly 8's and let the tail come right round, i learnt nose in that way & just follow the rotor disk with your cyclic stick.

                  Get a sim!

It really is the quickest and cheapest way. Instead of practising figure of 8's I just continualy practised nose in hovering on the sim to get the correct stick orientation.

It will come in time, just be patient and dont rush it.

The slow 8s has obviously worked for some people - but it hasn't for me.

My approach is to make sure I've got some orientations really sussed - not just able to hover in that orientation, but able to get into a hover from well out of shape or in reasonably bad winds.

Then I'll move onto an orientation 45 deg (or such) from that. If I get into trouble, I can quickly piro into an orientation where I can save it (like Twisted said).

Once I start to suss another orientation, I'll firm that up before moving too far onto another one. That way I've only got a short piro if I need to save it.

The thing to keep in mnd is how to bail out, and also when. Providing the rotors are pretty much at the top (!), more thottle gives you more height, and hence time to piro into an orientation that you can do.

IME, there's quite a difference between being able to hover in an orientation, and deal with wind gusts in that orientation. In the latter case, your hands need to act without you thinking. Getting that dialed in takes practice. Seems to have taken me ages...

I'm still finding it hard to pluck up the courage to try nose in. i can do it fine with the Sim & with the indoor co-Axel heli.. but just not got the b*lls to give it a go with the 450..

might give it a go after ive had a few cans of J/Smiths.. i wont feel half as bad then when i ditch it LOL

It will come, just keep practising.
Think back to when you couldn't ride a bike or drive a car soon it will be second nature :-)

Disc and p4ddy are both right.
You need to be high or low for a start. Not in between.

Height is your friend. Learned to nose-in with the raptor using the slow figure 8 method and eventally held nose-in for several minutes at a time. Got lower and lower eventually landing without incident. Then tried to take off and binned it badly (like over £100 worth). The earlier comment about being able to deal with gusts etc by having the sticks move as second nature (not having to think about placing the cyclic stick under the lowest part of the disk for example) is absolutely right. I also agree that height gives you the time to swing the heli round to tail-in if that's what you need to to to recover.

Personally I think that a combination of sim time to practice (including simulated gusty conditions) and real-life consolidation to prove you can do it is the way forward.

Oh yes, and the Raptor is sooooo much easier to nose-in than a 450!
