walkera 60 advise

Hello all,
Having just received my first Heli, a Walkera 60 although it’s second-hand with a few spares, seems to be in good condition..
I would like for you to confirm that my Dip switches are set correct with the following info provided and then I also have a couple of questions that I feel I need to ask.
The heli is complete with
speed controller wk-wst-30A, 6ch receiver RX607, wk-ws-28-003 (3000) brushless motor
new avcs wk-g006 gyro, Li-poly 1800&2200Mah batteries.
Dip switch settings on to the left and off to the right
1 on elevator
2 off aileron
3 on throttle
4 off rudder
5 on gear
6 on pit
7 off rudder/mixing
8 off normal /ccpm
9 off elevator function in ccpm mode
10 on pit lock
11 on exponential adjustment / throttle curve
12 on Gyro sensitivety and rudder mixing adjustment

Then
After removing the battery, re-positioning the speed controller wk-wst-30A and the 6ch receiver RX607 so that the canopy fits nice and snug
Because for me the original battery carrier is not designed to accept the larger size batteries and canopy together (Dissapointing)

Eg 1800mah and 2200 Mah are different sizes / weights, causing different points of balance,
Therefore my questions are
1 would it be better to mount /secure the battery underneath the undercarriage with Velcro to enable keeping the balance of the whole Heli central to the main shaft

2 How is it possible to check status of batteries?
3 how long should a normal charge be from being fully discharged using the GA-003 that came with it.
The reason I ask is because both the red and green light stays on permanently.

hi nobody has replied so i thought id give it a go for you.

after looking on the net at pictures and general reading i have some advice for you.

1.I think it is best to fit it between the frames at the front(once you have put the battery in,pick up the heli by the head with the blades perpendicular to the tail boom)and see if it tilts forward ...if it does move the battery forward or back so the the heli no longer tilts backward or forwards)...

2. if the charger that came with it doesnt show voltage ...buy either a battery doctor(20.00) or a voltage tester..something like this link..

3.not sure look in the manual and see what amps the charger charges at?

if it say 1.0a and you are charging the 1800mah...then it will take close to 2 hrs because it would charge at 1000mah per/hr or 1.0a per hour and the battary is 1.8 a.

I just realised you are trying to put a bigger battery on ...that might not be suitable cause of the size of the battery ...you might just have to stick to same size and just buy more(cause the heli would be nose heavy and will be a bitch to fly)...

yeh ive done a little research and i am looking to buy a voltmeter AND a low volt alarm for it. as you say the 2s to 6s type (little panel meters)
The 2 batterys that came with it , now i believe are useless so im looking at buying somet like a 1500mah or two that will fit also in the original compartment.
i did manage to charge em both for a couple of hrs upto 11.3 but overnight they dropped to 11.2 the smaller one and 10.8 the large one .
Then when trying the 2200mah just wound up to 80% rpm and wound straight down @ended as 9.7volts
the 1800mah wound upto full rpm hovered for a minute b4 cutting out completly (strange) and ending up @ 10.3 voltsl . so i reckon with a new battery it might be ok.
Fingers crossed any suggestions are more than welcome aprt from binning it ha ha.

For balance testing. Find the amount weight of the new batteries, mould some blu-tac etc to the weight/shape of your existing batteries if possible, put it in the battery where you want it to sit in the heli.

Then, after the canopy is on, pic the heli up by the blades and turn the heli so it is on its side. If the nose drops to the floor it is nose heavy, if the tail is dropping to the floor it is tail heavy.

Sack the shitty volt meters off and stick to the 80/20 rule. Get yourself a decent charger that tells you how much mah you are putting back into the pack after a flight.

If you have timed your flight to 4 minutes, and you are only putting 60% back into the pack then up the time by 30 seconds until you are putting around 80% of the mah back.

1500 mah @ 80% = 1200mah to put back into the pack

Getting a good charger is vital for the life of your batteries that is good advice......

to know what voltages are in your packs....time them and then use a battery doctor or a voltmeter just to find exactly where your at with them..

Ahhh the walkera 60# I had one of those a year or so ago, great little heli, had many hours of fun with it.
There is however 1 thing to keep your eye on, (hopefully you won't), I fell foul of a problem that turned out to be expensive to fix. A small batch of these helis were sent out with a slight twist on the ali main frame, this was not really noticeable just by looking at it. But it gave the heli a very bad fishtail effect, normally attributed to gyro, but I changed the gyro tail servo and several other small parts before contacting the company who sent me a new frame and all went well. As I say I hope your fine and don't have any issues, and think the chances are very slim that you encounter anything similar, but thought I better let you know in case. Sorry don't mean to worry you, like I said earlier, these are a very nice and nimble little pocket rocket heli's. Well worth the money.
