  • Xmas present help!!!

I overheard my boyfriend telling my brother that he wants a remote control helicopter and thought, 'hey, what a great idea for an xmas present'. However, it would seem that there are loads of them on the market and I haven't a clue where to start!!! He's never had a RC helicopter before, so is a total beginner. I've been looking at ones costing around £50-£70 - are these any good? I've also heard that some come with 'how to' videos which sounds like a must. Can anyone offer me any advice on a good model to buy him? Also, will there be any other extras I need to get him to avoid the xmas day disappointment of having a new toy he can't use?

If he's totally new to it, you'd be hard pushed to find a better one than the J Perkins Twister Bell 47g http://www.jperkinsdistribution.co.u...%20-%20Twister it's a ready to fly, all in learners heli. Intended for indoor use only it includes the instruction vids, transmitter (handset), a battery and a charger as well as some spare blades.

It's a very stable forgiving little helicopter that's easy to fly and looks good too, I'm new to heli's myself and find this really easy to fly. Although another way about it is to find a local instructor and send him for a few lessons to see if he actually likes it. A Bell 47g will set you back about £120 but in my humble opinion is a cracking introduction to the hobby with as little as possible in terms of the heartache that the big helis can cause.

(Please feel free to correct me anyone if I'm wrong on this)

What's the difference between the indoor and outdoor ones? (I really don't have a clue do I?) Are outdoor models not advisable for beginners?

Outdoor helis are much bigger and heavier (and much more expensive) in order to cope with the wind, in fairness an outdoor heli is the way to go if he's serious about taking it further but from what you're saying if he's never had an RC before I really can't think of a better intro than the 47g as it's much cheaper and easier to get some satisfactory results from. The much bigger / outdoor helis need massive amounts of time and skill to build and then fly successfully, something which sees a lot of absolute beginners give up completely before they've ever seen their machine do 10% of what it's capable of.

an outdoor one will be much more rewarding but you will have to add another zero on the end of your budget!

Buy him a Bell 47g, and buy yourself a Sceadu (or Raptor) with an OS 37.

                            Kim,

You'll probably need to buy a micro training undercarriage set to be on the safe side too ( About £7 )

It fixes onto the helicopter skids and prevents it tipping over when learning.
                            Cheers,
