    Greetings

I started in the hobby with a Twister Skylift last Xmas. I am a very patient person so spent plenty of time learning to hover. I had it until March and was able to hover competently when something went horribly wrong. After approx 10 seconds flying time, the motors cut. They would only start again when the battery was disconnected and re-connected. After 10 more seconds, they cut again.

Come April and my wife buys me a Twister V2. Spent two months learning another good hover. Now this machine flies or about a minute then suddenly spins uncontrollably to the right, even with full left yaw.

    Questions from a beginner:

Is this typical of the Twister make?

Has anybody got a solution for these probs?

What would anybody recommend for a beginner?

    Regards

A phoenix simulator and a good tx (DX6i)

It will save you a lot of money

And if you have lots of money buy a blade 400 or trex 450.

        I agree with Dan ^^^
I left the hobby 3 years ago and discovered Women.

        I wish I never left.

Welcome to RCHA and enjoy your stay with this friendly forum.

Yep, it is more likely to be BEC or LiPo. Buy and try a new pack of LiPo otherwise you'll need to go through Sim and micro heli route. Trex 450 SEV2 would be my choice.

Try this link for Trex 450

Thanks for the prompt responses guys.

I have already swapped the batteries. Same problems on both helis. Maybe its because they are both made to a budget, i.e. junk.

I have the Clearview simulator and find that ok. Is the Phoenix better?

Also, 400/450 size cp helis, are they not a bit too advanced for a beginner?

            Regards

Hmmmmmmmmmmm... They can be hard to set up if you have no one to help you. Mind you it would have to be a rubbish set up to be as bad as esky's one It would be good to get a sim first
              Thanks,

That tells me its not the kit or it wouldn`t fly for one minute, well not more than once. So it must be electrical.

We agreed on this Tosh but which bit of electric - Bx or BEC? It seems LiPo okish but I would have preferred to test with a completely new LiPo.

It may not be worth spending money on a new BEC because for an alchipo set it may be Rx . My suggestion would be to spend that money towards Phoenix Sim and a Dx6i Transmitter.

Trex 250 or similiar are mainly for indoor whereas 450 would fly outdoor so long wind is around 7mph.

                  Cheers

Can I run this by you guys.

I had a look a Dandemans reply and was thinking about the setup.

I dug out the V2 and had a good look at all the settings mentioned in the manual.
I noticed one of the flybar paddles was very slightly (2mm approx) out of alignment with the other
and not parallel with the swashplate. I twisted it slightly between finger and thumb.

Brought it out for a fly in the back garden and flew in a nice hover for approx 3 mins then started to spin to the right again.

Stopped it before a crash and checked the paddle again. Worked its way back to being slightly out of alignment. I will get a key and do a permanent job on it.

Can a slight mis-alignment cause a heli to spin?

I am saving up for Trex 250/450

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

I've never seen that before, normally when a paddle goes out on one of my helis the blade tracking goes awol, don't know if that's normal? And they become a so and so to control generally. Normally pyroing to one side is a tail motor issue. But you say it spun right? Ie Clockwise? Normally a tail issue would have them spin against the blades, that's because the motor naturally pushes the heli the opposite way, it's why they need a tail rotor in the first place. Sounds to me like for some reason the tail is spinning up and staying high, so pushing the heli round rather than failing altogether.
I know I had the Skylift myself, and she used to eat up control units something rotten, fly about 5 minutes then she'd hit the floor smoking.

But my CP has been fine, a lovely little heli and no grief at all, so far anyway.

The only way l can see that hapening is if is causes enough vibration to make the gyro give up.
