  • New gears neede on a 9254

Any advice/tips as the gear set is on the way from revolution models... this needs to be fixed before I can even think of meeting up with Ade for some lessons, so in the next couple of days I'll have it all back together again.

    Any set-up pointers??

    regards

    Mikey

yep... I've had a peek inside the existing servo and two of the gears are missing some teeth..

ok- well the first thing to do, is have a good look at how they all go together. Its not to tricky.
Then take em all out, and make sure theres no debris inside the case - basically try and find the broken teeth and get em out.

When the new gears arrive, fit them in the right order - you may have to pull one or both of the metal axles from the lid asnd stick them in the holes in the body - its easier to assemble it all on the body.
After you've pulled them out, check that the holes in the lid arent damaged as this often happens when the servo is abused.

The only bit that needs lining up is the output shaft.
Firstly it has to engage with the shaft going into the body - its a flat peg and theres a slot on the inside of the output gear.
Secondly, it has to be orientated so that the little peg on the upper side is in the right place. It doesnt matter where abouts, as long as its not the wrong way round.
The peg travels between two end points in the lid, and it goes in between them with the most travel. From memory, I think that it should be pointing away from the input lead.
I align the brass slotted shaft across the body of the servo, then slot the output cog on with the peg directly opposite the lead.

You really need to put some lithium (I think) grease on the cogs too.

Put it all back together making sure the o-rings are correctly fitted and thats it.

ok, thanks my good man... it doesn't sound too bad a job- and at 5.99 worth a try first. certainly a better option than a £60 new servo...

Nope, not difficult at all - just keep it all clean, put it back how it came out and make sure of the final gear alignment.

            Good luck!

I had to do the same after a crash.

Did what Jimbob suggested but can't remember the bit about the output gear - It works fine, full travel and so on, so maybe just lucky.

Took a note of the way they all meshed etc, but by the time I had cleaned out the grease & teeth I forgot how they went together. If I had to do it again I would try to get a digital pic of the layout before pulling them apart

              Best of luck

it's really easy mate! I'm a total beginner, and £5.99 later (thenks revolution models) it's all done. I'm gonna order spare gears for all my servo types for my spares box.

I always keep half a dozen packs of HS56 gears here because most of my smack ins tend to be the T-Rexes
