the standard one has the threaded ends and has grub screws in the ends of the paddles to lock em on but no flats on the bar altho im not sure the one thats fitted is the standard bar as its longer than described in the manual

Guys, sorry to hijack this thread but I had a bit of a hot start on Sunday on my Raptor 50 when I forgot to switch the rx on and the flybar got a touch bent on one side as it went into my hand - only a touch.

I tweaked it back straight. Is that ok? Seemed to fly ok with no vibration.

At least I know why I hold the head when starting my heli now

its been work hardened now. so its going to be more brittle.

            I would change it personally.

Is the standard mild steel flybar ok or is a stainless steel one the one to have? I could do with a bit more response / speed to the cyclic. Or do I need some V paddles really?
                Cheers

V Paddles will definitely help with cyclic response
I run them myself and they perform very well!
                  Cheers,

Gaz a longer flybar would mean the paddles are further out, should make it more stable

I prefer mild steel flybars as they are more pliable, the stainless ones fracture easily and hate being straightened

                        Raptor50luvver / Ade:
I was thinking that a Stainless Steel flybar would be stiffer and give better response? Am I right or is the difference negligible??

very little, i think stainless doesnt work harden as easily as normal steel tho?

                            Thanks Ade.
The main reason for asking is that you get 2 mild steel ones for the price of a SS one. If the difference is so small I'll get the mild ones.
I was given a pair of 'V' paddles that have lost the little metal bushes in the end (common apparently). I am trying to find an alternative to the little bush and I think I have found a cable ferrule that will do the job. Pass the 5 min epoxy

Stainless is harder than mild steel as it has a large quantity of other metals added to it (chrome, nickel, etc). It does work harden very easy. However it don't rust, and has a greater tensile strengh so its swings and roundabouts realy. (oh god I have posted again hope this don't all get out of hand.....)

A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                              And a DX8 too
