  • Maiden Voyage

Hi all, been lurking around here for a while now having been led kicking and screaming into the world of RC heli's, well OK not quite, was given one for my birthday by a friend of mine a few months back.

Anyhow, after much practice, deliberation, buying phoenix, then a cx2, then an mcx I finally took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and bought a 450

Last night was nice and calm so decided to go and fly with a mate of mine and maiden the 450, what an amazing heli. It's been spooled up in the garden a few times just to get the set up right but last night was the first time it flew and the first time i've flown anything other than a contra (unless you count phoenix).

Unfortunately the maiden didn't last as long as I would have hoped, and unfortunate incident with the tail rotors and a large lump in the ground put pay to my front drive gear, but no matter it flew and I smiled a very very big smile.

That was the good bit, the cx2 for some unknown reason at the moment lost all response about 3 minutes into the 2nd flight pack and down it came from about 40 feet up not sure on the extent of the damage as we decided to retire and drink beer instead, so I'll be taking stock tonight.

All in all a great night, even with the crashes I couldn't have wished for a bigger grin

We all crash at some point just repair and practice on the sim,

Not not sure about he CX2 at 40 feet up not really a good idea as a gust of wind will take it up and away in to the night so to speak.

CX2 best indoors for practice on your nose, side and tail hovering then on to forward flight etc

Oh it's daunting, no doubt about that, but I have a habit of throwing myself in with both feet when it comes to hobbies.

What I didn't want to do was buy then buy again, so I went for the pro, good idea? Haven't got a clue, but it's going to keep me busy

We have a valley by my mates house where we fly, surrounded by trees that top 100 feet and on a calm day it's superb, hence why I fly the cx2 outdoors you just have to watch out for the brook To be fair to the cx2, although it can become a bit of a handful if it's breezy, it still flies and does quite well, though the packs don't last long if it is.

Have now repaired the cx2, still have no idea why it came down, but got away with new blades and shafts, oh and a very destroyed fuselage

Sounds like you're having fun Ian.

I'd just put the loss of control on the CX2 down to sods law and move on. Of course, where it to happen again, it might be worth looking into.

            Oh definitely been having fun

It's been a steep learning curve over the last couple of months, but one that has been very enjoyable.

With a bit of luck we have another session planned for tomorrow evening, it's curry and beer night so think we'll be flying first, will post up the results
