hi could anyone tell me a good starter heli as i have never flown anything ,been told to aviod the walkera thanks ps wot could i expect to spend

depends where you want to fly.

basically you have 2 realistic and safe options.

If you want to fly in your own home indoors then something like a twister bell 47 are great to learn on.

the second option is to join a club and get a 30 or 50 size glow powered heli.

you can get into electric indoor/outdoor stuff but you need to be very careful where you fly them. Flying in a park is generally considered dangerous. They are too big to fly in your own home. Worst thing is they will cost you almost as much to get them flying as a 30 size glow heli.

the 30 or 50 size heli at a club is going to cost you a fair bit of money to get setup. what the returns are much higher too. the main problem is finding a good club that isnt too far for you.

before you do anything i would recomend going for a lesson at flyiing school it will help you make the decision as to how much you want to spend and where you want to fly.

30 or 50 size is the capacity of the 2 stroke engine...
30 size is about 5cc
50 size is about 8cc

Three good sims:
Reflex XTR and Real flight G3 have been around for a bit
Pheonix is the new kid on the block and is apparently very good.

For a sim I'd recomend pheonix on price alone its only £79 compared to £120 ish for XTR,

Its best to find a club discover what they fly and then buy one.

I would do that first before getting the sim as the heli on the shelf is great incentive to use the sim. Sims can get a bit dull quite quickly otherwise if all youre doing is trying to hover.

the Ebay route is a seemingly cheap entry to the sport but you have to be lucky to get one you can just fly with no work. Some/most of the cheaper ones are real heaps I know I bought one You stand a better chance getting a good secondhand one off of the BMFA classified pages, but as always, knowing nothing about what youre buying just leads to problems/being ripped off.

If you find a club, then a member may have one for sale. You will probably pay the top end of its value but it will have a known history and you wont be short of help should it go wrong.

I would go for a 30 size sceadu or a raptor dead popular and cheap parts, from what I've seen the sceadu is a smoother flyer and everyones got a raptor (contradiction, I know)

I'v not long started myself, so this is all from only a little expeirence.

def pheonix even tho i am involved with them i can honestly say it is the best sim on the market. No sim is perfect tho, theres always room for improvement as we speak they are working on an update.

for intermidiate flyers the sceadus are nice as they will benefit from the extra accuracy of the sceadu. However those frames are very weak in my experience.

knight 50 has the durability of the raptor with the flight characteristics better than a sceadu and the price tag of a raptor 30.

I recommend the Phoenix simulator

And for Nitro helis the Raptor 30 or 50 Sceadu 30 or 50

The cheapest option is the Knight 50 Sport,its priced similar to a Raptor 30 and is a very good all rounder

Any of these machines would be a sound investment

thanks for all replies got myself a sim got the aerofly professional deluxe hope i have made a good choice seems ok but wow its hard any 1 got tthe same sim and is it accurate regards martyn

I'm not sure how you ended up buying Aerofly Pro having read the posts on this thread?
The main recommendation being Phoenix with a brief mention each for Reflex and G3.
Aerofly Pro was the sim I started with and it did the job before I moved on to Reflex, and then on again recently to Phoenix.

AFPD is OK,ive used it briefly and it was not bad at all,,

Every sim will give you a bloody good headstart in the learning process

My preference is now Phoenix having spent some time on it
