Whats the best way to clean a engine

whats the best way to get the brown crap of your engine
ive been told a few methods but non seem to work
my engines dont get gunged up like this but this is a 2nd hand one i brought
and i realy dont like having a dirty engine

t-cut works very well on mufflers.

i prefer not getting the stains by using decent fuel :-)

Or mr muscle oven cleaner but be carful, it eats away the metal surface if you leave it too long.

The best way is the strip the engine down, throw the dirty bits in an acid bath used for decoking car engines, then beadblast the parts to return them to as-new condition.
Leastwise that's what I do.
