Inrunner / Outrunner

I'm not technically minded but as I understand it -- In the brushless world the motors with a rotor that turns inside the can is an inrunner-- and the ones that the rotor does not move but the can does is an outrunner .
I'm sure there is more to it and having posted this someone far better informed will leave a contribution.
