  • Which Governor

    Hi all,
I am sure severall of you out there will be able to assist,
I am looking to add a "goodie" to my Raptor 30V2, and am considering a governor, Usual story, which one does everbody recommend??, its going to be a birthday pressie from the wife, so money no object, (as i guess ill be paying for it indirectly anyway).
Joking aside, my current set-up is
JR PCM9XII, JR R700 receiver, JR DS811 servos and GY401/S9254 on the tail.
Local shop I know stocks GV1, not sure about others,

    Any ideas chaps.

My preference is Tj pro or Revmax but they all do a good job

A governor is a very fine addition to your heli,i now consider them essential and wont fly without one

i have been using the rev-lock for a while, asside from some finickyness in the setup they are def the best value.

TJ pro works well too, Not a big fan of the rev-max, its phylosophy is flawed and ends up being fugged into being a governor.

just done the first flight on a Curtis ATG and its looking great!!

I have used a TJPro on both helis I have had, never had any problems and configuration is all done using the ATV settings from the Tx. The TJPro seems to be quite clever as not only can it use standard or high speed digital servo's it also has a look forward algorithm with helps to maintain the rpm.

rev-lock uses the look forward stuff too.

I dont think there is much in it,personal choice really

They all perform very well, some better than others but you have to be a good flier to be able to push them to find the subtle differences

I presiume a govenor gives a constant head/rotor speed that means you only have to worry about pitch..is that correct?

                Whats a look forward algorithm?

Yes,a governor holds the engine RPM so you are basically just flying on pitch

The forward looking thing is basically the Governor looks at your Throttle curve and tries to sense when a load is about to be placed on the motor and it opens the throttle before the load is applied to stop the engine bogging and then reacting to the drop in RPM

Not explained very clearly but thats basically what it sort of does

On my Throttle Jockeys and Revmax i just set a high throttle curve 100 75 60 75 100

All that they are doing is holding the throttle back in effect most of the time

Both perform very similar in flight and work well

                      Thanks for all that.

You've all obviously been around the heli scene a lot longer than I have. Just in my fifties but a big boy at heart!!

I really didn't think this hobby was so complicated!!! Done some crashing & now want to get smarter at it. Cheaper I think.

Would a govenor simplify flying a heli? I found that fitting a 401 & 9254 really helped by removing the need for constant rudder inputs, would the govenor help with losing power from the 'lift' when turning as I have to add throttle to compensate?

                      Thanks
