  • Help Setting Up

Hi all, first of all this is my first post here so HELLO!!!

I'm Andy, a 28 year old with an affliction for all things RC.

I've had a Raptor 30 V2 in the past and also recently got rid of a Twister Bell 47G as I found it a bit too easy to fly (not challenging enough), I've recently got a Robbe Spirit Pro, with a Kontronik Twist 37 Motor and Esc along with a bunch of upgrades in deal that was too good to refuse.

The thing is I really don't know where to start in terms of setting it all up, I had my raptor done by Revolution Models back in 2003 but have since moved up north (Ayrshire in Scotland) so would really appreciate some help.

The rest of the equipment is a Futaba FF8 Super Tx, CSM 200HLG gyro (but thinking about getting a GY401), Multiplex Digital Tail Servo, NiMh battery pack whilst I'm finding my feet, K&S Symetrical Blades.

The heli itself is built and has flown recently with it's previous owner, so I simply need help with the pitch curves (beginner ones please), Throttle curves and ESC / Gyro Setup. If there's anyone local to me willing to help, or perhaps someone you know, or maybe you can help me do it over the phone, I'd be willing to part with some cash to know it's done properly and not put myself or others at risk.

    Andy.

    Hi There,

I used to live in Ayr and my Mum still does so I am down that way quite regular. That said I am fairly new to all this again myself but could cast an eye over it for you. A better idea though would be to get yourself to a club.

I know there are a few in the Ayrshire area but none that are heli dedicated and I am unsure how many actually fly helis at all. I travel down from Fife to Clyde view model heli club which is just off junction 5 of the M8 if you are interested I could put you in touch with the chairman etc and give you directions

    Dave

Setting up a model when your inexperienced is long winded, difficult and sometimes dangerous. You would be far far better off finding a local flying club.

i believe scotland has its own version of the BMFA?

I could not agree more Ade which is why I suggested he seek out the help from the guys at my club.

In Scotland we do have our own version of the BMFA which does pretty much the same job with different certificates etc.

Having been brought up In Ayrshire until I was 18 I know there are a few clubs down that way and having flown there as well few are tailored towards helis and those that do accomodate have very few flyers this is why I suggested he try our club. Although it is a bit of a drive.

That said there is another club closer to him waterfoot helis which I am sure would help the chap get in the air no problem.

        Cheers

              Whoa, steady on chaps.

Jct 5 of the M8 is definitely too far to make it a regular haunt, Waterfoot on the other hand is considerably closer and their chairman is likely to get an email or two from me before the evening is out.

I agree with what you're saying (both of you) in terms of the importance of a correct setup and I also made a call to Revolution Models who set up my old raptor for me and they've said that although it would be no problem to do it, they'll be unable to do so for at least 6 weeks due to one of them having an operation on their hand, which I guess is fair enough.

As I'm a plank flyer, I already have 3rd party insurance and would never fly without it, but a nearby club would be great despite the fact that I work in retail, which means that when everyone else is off work, I'm not... However, somewhere to direct my questions and get the odd lesson would be great (ade, fancy a trip to ayrshire? haha).

I'll keep you posted on how I get on, thanks for your replies so far!

Well, I've been in contact with Waterfoot helis and had a promising reply, I'm still however not set-up. Because I work at weekends I can't make it to the club when they meet, so I've just sent a begging email back to see if someone will be willing/able/bribable to meet me midweek to get this thing working as it's sat in the livingroom looking at me...

What's most infuriating just now is that I've spoken to almost every model shop in the area and not one of them does final setups, amazing given that it's easily the most crucial part. I've had the 'join a club' click...brrr... response from at least two different shops with no other help or questions asked, it's phenomenal that these shops survive refusing money like that...

Yep it is amazing these shops sell the gear and don't have a clue on set-up.....

Glad that the guys at waterfoot are willing to help, if you get stuck give me a shout I have PM'd you my email and telephone number. I would be happy to help within my limits.
